The Last Soft Toy-122/365

Isn't this a sweet picture? (Almost too sweet?) Looks as if Joni had found her new best friend? Don't be deceived.  This was taken just before the death of Lamb Chop. In fact, if you look at this, the first part of the destruction had already started. The first soft pink ear is already being chewed off as she looks at us so innocently. This was within 5 minutes of the introduction of Lamb Chop to Joni on Saturday afternoon. I won't go through the gory details of the process, but you should know that by Monday morning she had been disembowelled and today she is a shred of fluffy fabric, minus squeakers, ears, in fact almost everything.

So Lamb Chop is the last fluffy toy for Joni. From now on it's tough toys only. Even the famous blue balls have been chewed up and eaten (at least mostly eaten). So we are in the market for some indestructibles. Any suggestions? (Preferably blue, by the way, and if they can be bounced like the blue ball, then that would be a bonus.)

Bear With Me as This is Not a Bumblebee (114/365)

Are you confused? Of course it's not a bumblebee, I would not try to deceive you. But it should have been a bumblebee. At least it should have been a photograph of a fat yellow bumblebee on a beautiful blue periwinkle flower. I spent long enough hovering over the flowers and aiming my camera at those busy bees to have come up with lots of photos, not just one for the project. But I couldn't get one of them to be still enough (and on top of the flower or at least out from under the leaves) long enough to click the shutter.  So I have no photograph of a bumblebee. Can I ask you to imagine that lovely image? Thank you for humouring me.

Now, can you guess what it is?

I do have a dog who stays focused on a Frisbee in Steven's hand, waiting for it to be thrown, so no prizes for guessing that I do have a picture of that. Sorry about the lack of bumblebee.  Enjoy yet another this picture of Joni! It looked better in monochrome than in colour, this time. She is, after all, black and white!

Joni at the Gawky Teenager Stage (107/365)

It seems as if I am back walking the old Joni in the mornings, back to the top of the same rise beside the field, her nose covered in the drops of rain or dew, with her just giving me 'that look' when I call her name. This time, although the drops of dew on the muzzle and the quizzical 'look' are the same, instead of the lovely long coat and graceful shape of the mature border collie, this young Joni seems to be all legs and feet. Her ears are not yet settled into the final look and her tail still has that half grown twist at the end. I love to see the stages of growth, treasuring every moment even more in remembering the old 'Joni'.

Frisbee Lesson #1 (100/365)

The day of the first Frisbee lesson arrived. The snow was (mostly) melted, it was possible to throw it and not have it disappear from view. Joni was used to the idea of bringing back her blue ball to be thrown for her. You can almost see Joni's brain ticking over in this image. She had seen it thrown for her, she had run after it, had managed to pick it up (not easy when it landed on the concrete, not as easy as a ball, anyway) and could see that she was supposed to know what to do next. She was just not ready to give it up quite yet.

She still (after this was taken, on April 20th) enjoys doing a victory lap or two before bringing it back to be thrown again. But she has the idea now of how it works. A whole lifetime of Frisbee catching is before her. Next to playing with Aria (another border collie) nothing will get rid of her pent up energy as well as a Frisbee game!
