Project 366

A project I undertook in 2012 to share one photograph I took each day of that leap year. The subjects are diverse and show the development of my own photographic skills as I learned how to use my camera and compose photographs as I wanted them to be seen and enjoyed.

This is a Bumblebee (Patience Pays Off) (115/365)

Today I tried another tactic: I just sat there, in the patch of periwinkle flowers with the camera ready and waited. I hoped that at some point one or more of these little creatures would come within range of my lens. As I was already sitting there, I would already be at the right level and would just need to focus wherever they were. The light kept changing from brilliant sun to shadow as the sun came and went behind the clouds, so I switched from manual to AV and let the camera do the adjustments on the fly (get it? 😉 )

So my patience paid off. I love the way the fur on his little back is so neatly combed. I chose this one for this reason, while another I took showed amazing long hairs on little legs that you can't see at this angle. How shiny his legs are.

Bear With Me as This is Not a Bumblebee (114/365)

Are you confused? Of course it's not a bumblebee, I would not try to deceive you. But it should have been a bumblebee. At least it should have been a photograph of a fat yellow bumblebee on a beautiful blue periwinkle flower. I spent long enough hovering over the flowers and aiming my camera at those busy bees to have come up with lots of photos, not just one for the project. But I couldn't get one of them to be still enough (and on top of the flower or at least out from under the leaves) long enough to click the shutter.  So I have no photograph of a bumblebee. Can I ask you to imagine that lovely image? Thank you for humouring me.

Now, can you guess what it is?

I do have a dog who stays focused on a Frisbee in Steven's hand, waiting for it to be thrown, so no prizes for guessing that I do have a picture of that. Sorry about the lack of bumblebee.  Enjoy yet another this picture of Joni! It looked better in monochrome than in colour, this time. She is, after all, black and white!

The Bees Are Back in Town (113/365)

This morning Steven called me outside and we stood under this tree. "Listen", he said. I listened. "I can hear birds." "Not just birds," he said. So I listened again. "And I can hear traffic." Traffic? No, not traffic! It's the hum of hundreds and hundreds of bees in the tree blossoms above us! YES! The Bees are Back in Town! I stood on a step ladder to get close enough to catch this little guy.

And now after a few days of post bombing you all, I'm as up to date as I am going to be so watch for a treat of a different sort from tomorrow. I'm planning to share a story I wrote which will be in full on my blog, with a share of it on here.  (My blog is www.elliekennard.ca and so far it mostly features my G+ postings, but this treat will be a 'blog' 'almost' exclusive.)

Hanging on a Cliff Edge at Low Tide (112/365)

Sounds like how life feels, sometimes. It looks precarious, but what we don't see in this photograph is that there are huge boulders at the base of this cliff that prevent it and the tree from washing into the sea. They were placed there for that purpose. Again, this is similar to our lives. Make sure that we have a good solid base around which to plant our roots and nothing will uproot us. Without that, we cannot stand for long.
