Snowy Park – 19/365

How do you follow up on a puppy's photograph? With difficulty. But a photo a day is a photo a day. So here goes.

On Sunday there was the kind of classic snowfall that people who live in non snow countries think happens all the time in Northern climes. In fact it happens maybe once a year. The rest of the time it is not nearly as lovely. So here is a picture of the classic.

Follow Me – 8/365

Today was not a day to take a photograph, but rather to pick up one that had never been posted and get it ready to share with you. This was taken just over a week ago, a day or so after a blizzard when the ice and snow were weighing down the branches. I ventured on foot down a snowmobile trail through the woods  and turned a corner to see this. The slender branches outlined in white framed the pearly grey of that dark snow-heavy sky nicely. Shall we walk down this path together? Follow me, then. Dress warmly and maybe have snowshoes or cross country skis on, or at least good snow boots. It's perfect conditions for a winter wonderland walk.

It Was a Perfect Day for a Snowshoe Walk

Steven on a snowshoe walk – 2013

It was sunny, not too cold at about -4 C or so, and the sun was low in the sky as it was soon to set. We put on our snowshoes and started off through the woods on the nature trail that leads behind our house and follows the path of the tiny stream at the bottom of the field. I wanted a photo of Steven in his ‘anniversary’ snowshoes, so here he is. (I might as well just rename this album “Steven” as it seems my ‘portraits’ are all pictures of him!
I only fell over once. It was entirely my own fault as I almost forgot I was not just in boots and tripped over the snowshoes.

Joni and Steven on a winter ‘walk’ or ‘run’ (for Joni).

Joni loves winter walks in the snow (she turns them into winter runs). If we have our snowshoes on it’s so great to be able to go across the fields without worrying about crop damage.
