A project I undertook in 2012 to share one photograph I took each day of that leap year. The subjects are diverse and show the development of my own photographic skills as I learned how to use my camera and compose photographs as I wanted them to be seen and enjoyed.
The day after the blizzard was a day of blustery cold winds and drifting snow, especially across the dykelands. The light, though, was bright, through the lifting clouds. As the roads were now passable, I drove towards our local university town (Wolfville) to get some shopping done. As I drove out onto the main road, I pulled the car over to catch this picture of the village. I have never photographed Canning from this particular angle, but with the snowy landscape and the blowing flakes, I thought it looked lovely, nestled among the trees.
And now for something completely different! This wonderful fantasy creature is a pin that we got in France. It was made by a craftsman who exhibited with us in one of the shows, probably in Toulouse, back in the early 1990's. I haven't worn it in many years as I am not really into wearing such things. However I have wanted to photograph it for ages, as it has such an airy feel and beautiful colours. The snow is too deep and the roads not safe to drive on today, and I can barely walk in it (Joni disappeared in it over her head when she tried to leap over a snowbank to run around the house). I have had to be busy in the studio today as well, so it was the right time to photograph and share it. (Incidentally this craftsman used to ask people who found dead birds to send them to him. He was very aware of the potential issues regarding such birds being threatened.)
(I would have done it more justice by setting it up with my tripod and lighting (and our macro lens) but this was taken on the window ledge, using the natural light.)
No apologies for posting today’s photo. After a good round of playing with ball and toys (Joni’s) and of tearing around the kitchen (ditto), there is nothing as lovely as having a cuddle with your best playmate Steven who loves his puppy. They were lit from the snowy bright day outside the window beside them.

Fun with Joni
I have to say that I had more fun than anyone has a right to expect before 7 am, this morning. First thing we galloped together around a field that was knee deep in snow, being blown by a keen wind at well below freezing temperatures and another sideways lashing of snow hitting us both full in the face. After that, for amusement, Joni decided that the whole house would be her oyster (the world can wait) and set off in search of new things to chew and cats to play with. Once I had her tied on a long lead in the kitchen while I tried to get her breakfast and make tea, she discovered every possible combination of cats cradle known to (and not yet discovered by) man and that Rupert would probably chew his way through the lead, if she would just leave him alone long enough to do so. (The wooden gate that we had in place for her predecessor is now back in place, preventing access to the rest of the house until her Invisible Fence training is completed.) It’s all fun and games. Now, with a raging blizzard outside, she is sleeping peacefully and I wish I could join her. 😀
This is another treat day, where I get to post a photograph that I took in the past but never got a chance to share. This was a railway line in Ontario that had a lovely mist where the lines reached through the forest. I love trains and when I see train tracks I often think of past train trips and yearn to take another.
