Project 366

A project I undertook in 2012 to share one photograph I took each day of that leap year. The subjects are diverse and show the development of my own photographic skills as I learned how to use my camera and compose photographs as I wanted them to be seen and enjoyed.

Winter Farm – 20/365

This is one of my favourite farms and has been my subject on several occasions. Each time I pass it, there seems to be something that draws me. This time the muted tones, the soft drawn out clouds and the gentle furrows outlined by the mostly melted snow were what inspired me to stop and photograph it again yesterday. That is the wonderful thing about photography. No two moments are ever the same. Each reflects a unique moment and can evoke powerful memories of seasons and times. Tomorrow it will all change again. We have another blizzard forecast.

Snowy Park – 19/365

How do you follow up on a puppy's photograph? With difficulty. But a photo a day is a photo a day. So here goes.

On Sunday there was the kind of classic snowfall that people who live in non snow countries think happens all the time in Northern climes. In fact it happens maybe once a year. The rest of the time it is not nearly as lovely. So here is a picture of the classic.

Happy Days are Here Again – introducing Joni

Joni 3 - Ellie Kennard 2014
Joni 3 – Ellie Kennard 2014

Original Post: – 18/365

The house was just too empty. Now it is just SO full of bounce and happiness and joy! This new Joni came home with us on Saturday. She is (I’m sure I don’t have to tell you) absolutely perfect. (Border Collie, of course.)

I must relate a little story of how Joni 3 came to be ours. We were going to see her, not sure if she was coming home with us, for many different reasons. She is related to our last Joni, the one we lost in October. When we had finished looking at her, patting her and watching her play with her siblings, we stood and chatted with her breeder. The puppies settled into two heaps in their play area and fell asleep together. When it came time to make a decision and go home with or without her, Steven looked at her in the pile of sleeping puppies and asked “well, are you coming home with us then?”. She looked up, stood up alone, walked over to the edge of the play area and put her paws up on the top. No one else had moved. She chose us as much as we chose her. So of course she came home with us. Looking at her eyes, can you imagine turning her down? And now  I have a new photography assistant apprentice.

My Husband is in Love with an American Beauty (Lathe, that is) – 17/365

In the spirit of treating this project at times like a journal, I had to share this great moment in Steve's workshop. He has today taken delivery of a Robust Tools "American Beauty" lathe, built especially for him. He has been invited to be the dealer in these wonderful wood turning lathes for Eastern Canada, so this is a momentous occasion in more ways than one. Now he will be working on more beautiful turned pieces and you can see some of his earlier work here: https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/+StevenKennard/albums/5644449252472312273
