Ottawa River Shore Landscape – 14/365

Sometimes during my yearly photo project I am going to treat myself to sharing a photograph that was taken at a different time, processed for the daily share. (It's my project and I make my rules! :D) Today is incredibly busy for me and priorities have dictated that this is to be just such a treat day! Here you see a landscape photograph that I took while I was in Ontario. In composing this I was thinking of my wonderful mentor +Sairam Sundaresan from the +G+ Mentorship Program for Photographers in the fabulous Landscape Photography mentorship program that I was still working with (still am, actually). I also think of my fellow mentees,  with a tip of the hat to you all, knowing how you are taking such great photographs after our training.

You are seeing a bay off the Ottawa River, with the town of Arnprior on the opposite bank. The woods through which I walked to find this were still and peaceful. If I were to think of Canadian landscapes that would always remind me of being in this part of the world, this would certainly be near the top of the list.

The Sun Breaking Through – 9/365

This scene of snowy winter fields, glazed from the recent rain and subsequent sudden drop in temperature was suddenly brought to life this morning when the light began to break through the clouds in rays. This made the icy fields beside the river suddenly gleam and light up behind the ragged corn stubble above. Zooming in will show you the little winding river, completely frozen over, which is the same one featured on day 7 of the project, where you see the much wider river mouth as it empties into the tidal dykes. You probably wouldn't have as much fun skating on this little meandering section.

Follow Me – 8/365

Today was not a day to take a photograph, but rather to pick up one that had never been posted and get it ready to share with you. This was taken just over a week ago, a day or so after a blizzard when the ice and snow were weighing down the branches. I ventured on foot down a snowmobile trail through the woods  and turned a corner to see this. The slender branches outlined in white framed the pearly grey of that dark snow-heavy sky nicely. Shall we walk down this path together? Follow me, then. Dress warmly and maybe have snowshoes or cross country skis on, or at least good snow boots. It's perfect conditions for a winter wonderland walk.

Canning, From the Aboiteau Road 7/365

I had to deliver something to the art store in Canning today (and pick up a couple of art supplies myself) and it was such a lovely clear cold day that I stayed to take some photographs of the river. An old man passed by and stopped to pass the time of day with me. He remarked on how smooth the river ice was – perfect for skating. "If I was a teenager, that's where I would be, right now! I used to skate on that river all the time when I was young."

I drove on beyond the town and over the bridge on the Aboiteau road to get this angle on the town. There were no skaters anywhere on that river. What a shame. (Mind you, it was windy and felt bitterly cold, although it was much warmer than the -22 degrees we had the other day.)
