Week 14/26 : Architecture

The night I had to pick up Steven at the airport, it was absolutely bucketing with rain. It was really late and (of course) the plane was delayed. The delays (3 of them) were due to maintenance issues all down the line, but this meant that I spent a lot of time sitting in the car in the rain and finally in the airport itself. This photograph was taken through the rainy car window and it features the Alt Hotel, which actually is just beside the terminal building. Seen through the streaming glass, the architecture of this hotel took on a completely different look. For that reason I have chosen it to feature for this theme. This submission is made with thanks to +Linda Jess who was with me all night long, as we played with our cameras and tried not to freeze in the cold airport. She didn't even complain when we finally dropped her home around 4:30 the next morning. And of course with thanks to +Steven Kennard without whom this wouldn't have happened. And +Air Canada ditto, but with no thanks.

Rupert and Molly

Week 12/26: Yin Yang

These are two old friends, Rupert and Molly, our Cornish Rex cats. This back view really shows off their curly hair and big ears. They were both pretty interested in something on the other side of the room so fortunately paid me no attention at all.

Yin and Yang is defined in this way: "Yin and yang can be thought of as complementary (rather than opposing) forces that interact to form a dynamic system in which the whole is greater than the assembled parts." Yin is the shady side (Molly) and Yang is the sunny side (Rupert). And the two definitely interact to form a duo that is greater than the assembled parts. Molly can be moody, is very deep in her affections and emotions. A little shy until she gets to know you then she tries to take you over. Rupert is a sunny golden joy boy, always asking for you to pick him up and cuddle him. Happy at any moment to have a conversation and to leap around the kitchen to get some laughs going. Together they form the perfect dynamic duo.

Self Portrait

Week 11/26 #BWProject26

I am always in a hurry to get things done, so I just zoomed in to take this then zoomed out again!

I am not a great one for taking self portraits, there are many much more interesting subjects around, but this is the theme for this week and who am I to fight it? As this week I am focusing on the zoom, this seemed an ideal opportunity to try out different techniques.

With a tip of the blurred hat to those of us taking part in the blurred mentorship run by +Alex Lapidus, I am posting my blurry self portrait image for the B&W project. You can still see it is me, so that works for me.

Did Someone Say the Lighting With Intent Mentorship is Starting Soon?

Brent and I are really excited that tomorrow I am going to be starting this mentorship with the master of lighting, +Eric Raeber. This should be a wonderful period of learning and we have an amazing group of people lined up ready to explore the mysteries of lighting in photography. I am looking forward to being able to understand and use new techniques to make better use of lighting in my photography, including portraits. This was taken, as he was sitting waiting for his supper, so cute in his little leather jacket.

Brent is the son of good friends of mine and his expression shows perfectly the wonder and excitement I feel waiting for tomorrow's very first lesson to arrive in my inbox.
