Joni Putting on her Welcoming Face for a Small New Friend

At last, another treat for the followers of Joni and Her Collection!

It's been a while since we showed her softer side as usually she wears the intense and focused expression so common in this breed. This time I caught her watching a bee that was crawling around on the ground. She seems to be able to spot an insect or worm wherever it is in the grass and usually alerts me to it by a cycle of dancing around it barking in excitement first, then trying to pat it with her paw and finally sitting down and putting on her friendliest look, hoping that it will be enticed to play with her. Then she starts the whole performance again. This shows her friendly face stage.

Joni will be 2 years old in December so she is still a young dog and finds delight in her discoveries every day as does a child. When I see her doing this I am often able to share in her excitement and have seen many tiny wonders just from watching her.

Joni on Hummingbird Watch

Actually Joni was not on hummingbird watch at all, I was supposed to be. I had set my camera and myself in a good place, hoping to catch the hummingbirds as they hovered amongst the flowers on the hosta. I was sitting quietly in a chair where I knew I would not disturb them and I would get an unobstructed view of the plants and the visitors. It was a peaceful quiet sunny late afternoon. Perfect. I was only worried that I might doze off in the warmth of the sun.

All of a sudden I was jolted out of my peaceful reverie and all the birds flew off in a panic. I felt a frisbee land on my foot. Joni was on frisbee watch! It didn't matter how politely (or sternly) I asked her to go somewhere else, or how many times I threw it for her, she wouldn't leave me or the frisbee alone. The hummingbirds were well and truly gone for the day, frightened of being hit by either a flying frisbee or flying Joni. Sometimes I think that Joni doesn't quite get this photography thing.

Joni is 18 months Old and Her Collection is a Google+ Featured One!

I have been so busy posting images of unrecognisable (or barely) subjects on my blur mentorship that I thought it was time I shared another image of Joni, who is now almost grown out of the puppy stage. Here she was waiting by the front of the house, nicely backlit next to the rhododendrons that are about to flower. She is always ready for any game, in spite of being so grown up.

Rupert and Molly

Week 12/26: Yin Yang

These are two old friends, Rupert and Molly, our Cornish Rex cats. This back view really shows off their curly hair and big ears. They were both pretty interested in something on the other side of the room so fortunately paid me no attention at all.

Yin and Yang is defined in this way: "Yin and yang can be thought of as complementary (rather than opposing) forces that interact to form a dynamic system in which the whole is greater than the assembled parts." Yin is the shady side (Molly) and Yang is the sunny side (Rupert). And the two definitely interact to form a duo that is greater than the assembled parts. Molly can be moody, is very deep in her affections and emotions. A little shy until she gets to know you then she tries to take you over. Rupert is a sunny golden joy boy, always asking for you to pick him up and cuddle him. Happy at any moment to have a conversation and to leap around the kitchen to get some laughs going. Together they form the perfect dynamic duo.
