Joni Loves a Good Blizzard – 76/365

We've had all the wintry weather we want for this year. But Joni hasn't. There is nothing she loves quite as much as a good blizzard. I sent her out the other day, waited patiently by the window, looking out to see when she wanted to come back in. But she didn't. She absolutely loved the cold, adored the snow and raced around with great abandon. What she is going to do when it stops snowing or sleeting or freezing raining? I am sure she thinks she is a husky living at the North Pole. She has only ever known the winter. Fortunately for her there is no sign of spring in sight.

Joni is now 4 months old. The blue ball game is still the favourite and it is getting more and more refined every day as she teaches us the tricks she wants us to do with it and the rules of the game. We are learning.

I Wish For Spring – 75/365

Here is another photograph of one of the tulips I was given, this time for today's Macro Monday sub-theme of Spring. Which is what I wish for. Not what I have. I loved the delicacy of the lines in the petals as well as the soft pinks, cream and green.

I always love to read the comments made on my photographs, thank you everyone! With the construction work going on in the house my computer time is limited and so I don't get to reply to them all very quickly. Please forgive me and be sure that I will get to them and answer each one!

Pileated Woodpecker – 74/365

I don't have a long enough lens to get wonderful bird images, but when I had not one, but two pileated woodpeckers around my feeders the other day, I had to get a picture, at least of one of them. Taken through the window, this shows one eyeing the feeder hanging above it. They are the largest woodpecker we have around here and make an impressive noise when they drum on the trees around us. We don't see them very often, but you can always tell when they have found a meal in our trees as they leave huge jagged holes as evidence of where they have been.

Ladies' Home Journal 1917 – 73/365

It's wonderful, the things you can find buried in the walls of old houses. This copy of the Ladies' Home Journal is dated 1917. Although much of it has been chewed by mice (or maybe squirrels) there are some pages that are more or less intact. The colour and print is clear and bright, which is amazing for a magazine printed on newsprint quality paper, which is almost 100 years old. It will be great to take the pages that are almost intact and frame them. What a history these old relics hold. The times these houses have seen. If only they could talk. And I guess they do, in their own way.
