Project 366

A project I undertook in 2012 to share one photograph I took each day of that leap year. The subjects are diverse and show the development of my own photographic skills as I learned how to use my camera and compose photographs as I wanted them to be seen and enjoyed.

Flooding from Sudden Thaw and Heavy Rains 12/365

From a period of extreme cold and heavy winter blizzards, we have been suddenly plunged into semi-tropical temperatures, with heavy rainfall. All of this has the snow and the ice melting (not a bad thing) and causing some minor flooding. Yesterday on our walk in the afternoon sun this road was flooded. Today on the same walk it was colder. What this means is that I got a completely different photograph, which is why I chose to post this rather nondescript image of a not very serious flood. Bear with me as I think you will understand more tomorrow. I can't post it today as I have too much to do tonight. You will just have to be patient! 🙂

Bald Eagles 11/365

So there we were driving along in the car on Saturday morning, not far from our house when suddenly we spotted a tree full of bald eagles. By the time we had turned around and driven back for me to photograph them, they had begun to get restless and were taking off and by the time I took my last photograph there were only 6 left in and around the tree. These wonderful birds nest in the area and feed on the carcasses thrown out from the local chicken farms, mainly. The younger ones tend to be larger than the adults and do not have the distinctive white heads which appear when they are older.

I am catching up with my project, more to post!

Feel Like Dancing?

Incredible energy, musicianship and a wonderful production in this video.

Dance like no one is watching!  I dance all the time when I can, to get my steps up (I want 10,000 in each day), especially when the weather makes it hard to get out. This is a great one to add to my dance collection. I dance when cooking, when washing dishes, when doing household chores. There are no rules saying when you can and cannot dance.

The Sun Breaking Through – 9/365

This scene of snowy winter fields, glazed from the recent rain and subsequent sudden drop in temperature was suddenly brought to life this morning when the light began to break through the clouds in rays. This made the icy fields beside the river suddenly gleam and light up behind the ragged corn stubble above. Zooming in will show you the little winding river, completely frozen over, which is the same one featured on day 7 of the project, where you see the much wider river mouth as it empties into the tidal dykes. You probably wouldn't have as much fun skating on this little meandering section.
