Project 366

A project I undertook in 2012 to share one photograph I took each day of that leap year. The subjects are diverse and show the development of my own photographic skills as I learned how to use my camera and compose photographs as I wanted them to be seen and enjoyed.

“Warning: Watching this video will make you want to ride your bike, it will also make you want to get a dog. If you don’t have either then you might want to consider getting both…”

You’ll probably get both after you watch this.

You have been warned. If you are missing a border collie, this is the movie that will do it. So grab your hankies.

Rainy Day Path

Rainy Day Path – Ellie Kennard 2014

We had heard about a path that leads through the woods that is great for walking and snowshoeing or skiing, so I thought I would find where it was. The walk will have to wait for a day when it’s not pouring with rain, but at least now I know where it is. It looked lovely, just like a painting, seen through the rainy windscreen. I can’t wait to walk down that path when it snows… Or when it is sunny. At least not when it’s not so wet.

Ottawa River Shore Landscape – 14/365

Sometimes during my yearly photo project I am going to treat myself to sharing a photograph that was taken at a different time, processed for the daily share. (It's my project and I make my rules! :D) Today is incredibly busy for me and priorities have dictated that this is to be just such a treat day! Here you see a landscape photograph that I took while I was in Ontario. In composing this I was thinking of my wonderful mentor +Sairam Sundaresan from the +G+ Mentorship Program for Photographers in the fabulous Landscape Photography mentorship program that I was still working with (still am, actually). I also think of my fellow mentees,  with a tip of the hat to you all, knowing how you are taking such great photographs after our training.

You are seeing a bay off the Ottawa River, with the town of Arnprior on the opposite bank. The woods through which I walked to find this were still and peaceful. If I were to think of Canadian landscapes that would always remind me of being in this part of the world, this would certainly be near the top of the list.

The Reason You Take Your Camera Everywhere 13/365

I don't know what freak weather conditions produced this effect but I was glad I had decided not to leave my camera at home on this walk I had taken umpteen times. The posting for the 12th was of a flooding road and ditch and in the night it had been colder, down to freezing temperatures again, but with a brisk wind. I thought that the flood water would have completely dried up and as I got near that location again I saw that I was right. My walking companion decided to cross the road to see what had happened to the water and exclaimed in delight. It had, indeed, evaporated. But above the ditch there had formed a thin skin of jagged ice that sat, suspended in the air by the edges that clung to the two sides of it. The ice was so thin it could have been a covering of cellophane.  I took several photographs of this strange and beautiful phenomenon but, really, it had to be seen to be fully appreciated. Nothing remains of it today.
