It can take a long time for the snowplows to get to Highway 221 – 51/365

I thought you might like to see our 'highway' after the storm.

This snow, at least was forecast, unlike yesterday's. But when I came downstairs this morning, I could not see the car parked in front of the house.  While Steven plowed the drive to clear it so that I could get to my eye doctor appointment, I dragged the recycling and garbage to the edge of the drive. This is the scene from there. He is fast getting to the point of not having somewhere to push it, we have such a buildup  – of water – ridiculous, isn't it? I have another couple of photos to add to this saga which I will post shortly, but this is the one I chose for the project, for my friends +Charles Strebor and +Natosha Davis for their themes.

Joni in the New Snow – 50/365

Sometimes our weather seems to come out of nowhere. I think we were supposed to get flurries in the night. Flurries, for the uninitiated means  "a very light snow that is rather brief and does not produce a measurable amount of snow (minimum of a tenth of an inch)".

Instead, this morning I woke up to a fresh fall of snow of 6-8" or around 20 cm. Steven was a little dismayed as that meant he had to spend the first 2.5 hours of his morning clearing it from the drive. Joni was delighted. She can still walk on top of the last fall which formed a crust and again finds it easier going under the trees where it is less deep. I am a lot heavier (!) and so I sink right in, well above my boots and even above my knees in the open areas. For the #fansofjoni  we have another Joni feature today! 😀

Monochrome – 49/365

I actually was taking a photograph of things in this dish, not this dish at all. But then I was rather taken by the interior with the glass stamens and decided to photograph this just by itself.  (Now I am caught up for my 365 Project!)

Heat Seekers – 48/365

So yesterday morning when I was up early, putting wood on the stove to get it going again, as I turned to do something else I heard a loud bang. Some build up of gasses had caused the top of the stove to lift off and had ejected the gasket ( which is a furry, ropey thing that you put in between the top of the stove and the stove body to insulate it and form a sealed join). This was not a disaster, but it meant that I had to get a replacement gasket for Steven to put into place. So, (and this was approaching a disaster for some of us) we had to let the stove out for several hours so that it would be cool enough to put this new gasket in place. The wood stove is pretty much all we use to heat our house, so this meant that bit by bit the house got colder and colder.

When you have two heat loving cats who often spend most of the day lying behind this hot wood stove, this is obviously not going to make them very happy. I looked around for them yesterday afternoon and here is where I found them. This is a bag that has a heated pad in the bottom and a thermo layer in the top. Usually they sit looking out of it, enjoying the view. Yesterday was obviously a protest and I think that Molly's tail was as expressive as the two backs facing me.
