Under the Feeder

A red squirrel is sitting sideways on, with sunflower seed hulls scattered about on the ground. She is facing the camera with her front paws holding a seed to her mouth . There is fresh green grass behind her and a few dried old brown autumn leaves.
Under the feeder

We don’t hang bird feeders any longer due to the risk of spreading disease, but in the days when I did, we were visited by opportunistic red squirrels. They joined the mourning doves on the ground, scavanging for dropped seeds, but had the advantage of being able to climb the pole to get direct access. This was taken in April one year. It’s another few months until we see the Spring, but it will come. Have a lovely day, friends! She features on my Wildlife Gallery.

Find Joy Where You Can

Several pale mauve, pink and white asters are in the forefront of the photo, with out-of-focus ones behind. In the background is the wheel of a parked car.
Parking Lot Asters

It’s a day for a cheerful flower post, though admittedly out of season. Let this little patch of wild asters that have braved the odds to flourish at the edge of a parking lot be one spot of joy in your day, wherever you are, my friends. Why the car tire in the shot? Doesn’t this show the possiblity of finding beauty in the most unlikely places and how quickly the natural world reclaims a spot to start to spread and take over from the drab concrete around?

My flower gallery contains lots of beauty, if you want to see more floral joy.

Help Wanted

A young curly coated tabby cat with long white whiskers is perched precariously on top of a thin coated laundry hanging rack, which is only partly open. She is sideways on to us along the rack, looking to our right. Behind her is a bright window, table lamp, and wooden chair.
I can’t figure out what to do next

I’ve been a bit absent on here lately, for a few reasons. The first was that the server I host my site on was having issues with attacks which caused it to be intermittently offline and was very frustrating. In time they got it sorted, but then, just as all was back to normal, I got ill. It’s nothing serious, but has kept me from doing anything that wasn’t urgent. I’m getting back to normal, slowly, I’m glad to say. So this is a fun post to say I’m still here.

You don’t need to worry about me, though. As you can see, I have lots of help with household chores. Zaz couldn’t quite work out how to put up the laundry rack, though. I suggested she just stick to cleaning the dishes. Or take up tightrope walking. You just can’t get competent help these days! I am considering asking the agency for a more experienced replacement.

There has been another post since the last time I sent out emails. This one features “The Band” at our wedding, which will not be what you expect, I think and there is a video song to enjoy as well. Take a look here: https://www.elliekennard.ca/the-band/

See you soon, friends.

A young tabby cat is perched on thin metal bars on a partly folded laundry rack, looking to our left. behind is a room with sofa, bright windows, wood floor and a blue laundry basket. There is also an erected laundry rack whose arms are raised so they almost look like wings on the cat.
What do you mean? I’m perfectly comfortable.

The Band

Four musicians sitting around a round wooden table with different instruments lying around with cases. There is a guitar player, a bones player, a button accordeon player and a pianist in front of an electric piano set up on the table. There is a brick wall behind and three of the musicians are sitting on an old, dark, wooden settle.
The band – Steven Kennard, Garry Silbert, Mike Mann, Don Shepherd

Our wedding was informal as you can see here. It’s probably not usual for the groom to play in the band at his own wedding, but for us it seemed perfectly natural as music brought us together, in sessions like this one. Not a great photo but good times.

Musicians were – Steven, melodeons; Mike, keyboards and vocals; Garry, bones and bodhran and Don guitar and vocals. Sadly, both Mike and Don have died, but we have our memories of happy times together. If you don’t know Don’s music, (or if you do) you can hear a track “The Sun and the Moon” here.
