Project 366

A project I undertook in 2012 to share one photograph I took each day of that leap year. The subjects are diverse and show the development of my own photographic skills as I learned how to use my camera and compose photographs as I wanted them to be seen and enjoyed.

After the Rain-135/365

These are my absolute favourite tulips that we have in the garden. There are just two flowers that appear, each year. And they seem to last for weeks before dying off. I was photographing these at the time of the raccoon saga and just yesterday after a sudden downpour I happened to see that they are still there, but soon will be over.  So here they are, early for #tulipsaturday  curated by +Measie Elizabeth, +Marilyn Benham +Eustace James

Just Across the Road-134/365

We have lived here for 17 years and the day before yesterday was the first day I discovered this lovely spot. It is at the foot of the neighbour's garden and I had never gone down there. Yesterday evening there was a lovely warn evening light. This is a view looking back up towards the village.

Surrounded by Trees-133/365

Our house is surrounded by trees. In the old days they understood how important this was. In the summer, the leaves, dense and green, stop the heat from getting in through the windows and keep the house cool. These leaves are a natural air conditioner, using no power, naturally filtering out the heat.  The birds find shelter in them, nest and raise their young in the branches and the evergreens and shrubs that are at the ground level. The sun filters through only when it is lower at sunrise and again at sunset, once the intense heat of the day is beginning to dissipate. In the winter, when all the leaves are off and the branches are bare, the sun's rays stream through all the big windows, warming and lighting the interior during the shorter winter days. The rooms are bright and airy. What can be better than that?

The Country Moon is Free-132/365

Unlike the moon in the city, the clean, pure looking sickle moon in the country is unfettered and floats free above the earthbound trees, silhouetted against the sunset.
