Tulip : Nearly the End-130/365

Even as they near their end, the tulips have an appeal. This photograph reminded me of old watercolour drawings in books illustrating flowers. I just loved the delicate drying petals, like fine crushed or pleated silk.

Japonica Blossoms

We have had miserable, cold and rainy weather here for the past few days, including temperatures that went down to freezing. On Saturday, however, we did have a break in the clouds and a little sun came out lighting these delightful japonica blossoms. We have one bush with deep red flowers, but this pink one is almost hidden near the end of the drive, under an evergreen and often goes unnoticed. Just looking at the warm colour of this soft pink made me feel a bit more cheery. I hope it does the same for you. This posting was made yesterday but, although the photograph appeared, the text did not. So I am reposting in hopes that it was a temporary glitch.

I love to see the dandelions that appear in the spring. Two days ago I was photographing the yellow carpet spread out under the trees. Too soon they were over this year, it seems. But the delicate seeds are here, to be spread in the wind. The middle looks like a golf ball, which I had never noticed before. This image is best viewed large and zoomed in to see the detail.

Forget Me Not-125/365

Right at the top of the Frisbee playing part of the garden I found a tiny patch of these lovely flowers. There are only a few of them and they are much smaller and more delicate than I remember from seeing Forget Me Nots in the past. I remember them being tall and rather hairy looking. I love the way these have buds of pale mauve (which do have little hairs on them) that turn into pale pink flowers and then these become blue. So you see the full spectrum in the sprig.

Incidentally, I forgot to wear my bug shirt in my haste to get out and was bitten by a black fly. Note to self: Do not forget the bug shirt in the future!
