Joni's New Toy – 26/365

Joni got a new toy on Saturday, given to her by the lovely little boy who lives across the road. Actually he brought her several toys as he is almost her greatest admirer. She is a very appreciative receiver of gifts, always playing very enthusiastically with whatever comes her way. If she could stick to her toys that would be no bad thing, but I guess at 8 weeks she still has a lot to learn.   #noapologies  for another puppy pic. Hope it makes you all smile.

No apologies for posting today’s photo. After a good round of playing with ball and toys (Joni’s) and of tearing around the kitchen (ditto), there is nothing as lovely as having a cuddle with your best playmate Steven who loves his puppy. They were lit from the snowy bright day outside the window beside them.

Fun with Joni

I have to say that I had more fun than anyone has a right to expect before 7 am, this morning. First thing we galloped together around a field that was knee deep in snow, being blown by a keen wind at well below freezing temperatures and another sideways lashing of snow hitting us both full in the face.  After that, for amusement, Joni decided that the whole house would be her oyster (the world can wait) and set off in search of new things to chew and cats to play with. Once I had her tied on a long lead in the kitchen while I tried to get her breakfast and make tea, she discovered every possible combination of cats cradle known to (and not yet discovered by) man and that Rupert would probably chew his way through the lead, if she would just leave him alone long enough to do so. (The wooden gate that we had in place for her predecessor is now back in place, preventing access to the rest of the house until her Invisible Fence training is completed.) It’s all fun and games. Now, with a raging blizzard outside, she is sleeping peacefully and I wish I could join her. 😀

The house was just too empty. Now it is just SO full of bounce and happiness and joy! This new Joni came home with us on Saturday. She is (I’m sure I don’t have to tell you) absolutely perfect. (Border Collie, of course.)

I must relate a little story of how Joni 3 came to be ours. We were going to see her, not sure if she was coming home with us, for many different reasons. She is related to our last Joni, the one we lost in October. When we had finished looking at her, patting her and watching her play with her siblings, we stood and chatted with her breeder. The puppies settled into two heaps in their play area and fell asleep together. When it came time to make a decision and go home with or without her, Steven looked at her in the pile of sleeping puppies and asked “well, are you coming home with us then?”. She looked up, stood up alone, walked over to the edge of the play area and put her paws up on the top. No one else had moved. She chose us as much as we chose her. So of course she came home with us. Looking at her eyes, can you imagine turning her down? And now  I have a new photography assistant apprentice.
