Clove Pink

This looks as if it should be sticking out of a buttonhole on some dapper jacket, but it was just growing in a flower garden. I say ‘just’ as though that is a less worthy situation. At least this one was there to give pleasure to the viewer for a much longer time and didn’t wilt the way it would if picked. I do love to see a beautiful bouquet of flowers on my kitchen table, but it is so lovely to see them in their natural environment. I guess there is a place for both. And now today there is a third way it brightens the day, which is in the photograph where it never will wilt, ever. Enjoy your day, everyone. View all posts on the Home page.  A Flower a Day #438

Wild Cucumber

Wild Cucumber

Wild Cucumber

This does grow exactly like a cucumber plant, to the point that I have, on occasions, even left the vine to grow, thinking that some random bird or other has sown it for me! This one was growing through a pile of firewood, clearly wasn’t going to produce anything edible, but it did look so pretty with its tiny white flowers. So I left it to grow until I thought it might choke the blackberry bushes next to it. I kept it alive and well for you in this photograph, friends. Have a lovely day, everyone. Your Guess

Your Guess is as Good as Mine

Your Guess is as Good as Mine

Your guess is as good as mine on this one. Your assignment, if you choose to accept it, is to give me a positive ID on today’s flower. I have done my best to find out the flower name, but I think it was in a planter in the village and is now gone and I have no way of finding out. My Plant ID app suggested a Chinese Aster, but let me know if you recognise it. Life is full of mysteries and this is one of them! Enjoy your day and let me know what you come up with. Wrinkleleaf Goldenrod

Wrinkleleaf Goldenrod

Wrinkleleaf Goldenrod

Happy Sunday! Goldenrod has apparently many guises, this being only one. They all share this lovely rich deep yellow colour with relatively small flowers, often bunched together in various ways on stems of varying lengths. (I hope you will excuse my highly scientific description.) The unopened buds on this one are a little reminiscent of tiny mimosa flowers in shape. I don’t remember even seeing this variety before, which is probably simply that I have not taken the time to study them next to their other relatives. Next year I will try to make more of an effort, when they come back to our roadsides. As I write this it is very grey and dull out my window, so I needed a bright pick-me-up and this fits the bill for me. I hope you have a good day, all of you.
