Winter Fields, Late Afternoon – 41/365

I drove home late yesterday afternoon and passed this field that I photographed in the Spring when the new crops were just beginning to appear above the surface of the ground. The neatly ploughed rows followed the contours of the dips and swells in the land. (That image was entitled ‘Contours’ and you can see it here https://plus.google.com/u/0/105804664540125819976/posts/amt9CtPMipT )

Now all the crops are harvested and the land is covered in a cold protective blanket, waiting for the Spring to release the icy grip of winter. And so this time it is the rows of frozen corn stalks that show the contours of this land.

Snow Blowing Over the Dykes, Canning – 24/365

The day after the blizzard was a day of blustery cold winds and drifting snow, especially across the dykelands. The light, though, was bright, through the lifting clouds. As the roads were now passable, I drove towards our local university town (Wolfville) to get some shopping done. As I drove out onto the main road, I pulled the car over to catch this picture of the village. I have never photographed Canning from this particular angle, but with the snowy landscape and the blowing flakes, I thought it looked lovely, nestled among the trees.

Winter Farm – 20/365

This is one of my favourite farms and has been my subject on several occasions. Each time I pass it, there seems to be something that draws me. This time the muted tones, the soft drawn out clouds and the gentle furrows outlined by the mostly melted snow were what inspired me to stop and photograph it again yesterday. That is the wonderful thing about photography. No two moments are ever the same. Each reflects a unique moment and can evoke powerful memories of seasons and times. Tomorrow it will all change again. We have another blizzard forecast.

Ottawa River Shore Landscape – 14/365

Sometimes during my yearly photo project I am going to treat myself to sharing a photograph that was taken at a different time, processed for the daily share. (It's my project and I make my rules! :D) Today is incredibly busy for me and priorities have dictated that this is to be just such a treat day! Here you see a landscape photograph that I took while I was in Ontario. In composing this I was thinking of my wonderful mentor +Sairam Sundaresan from the +G+ Mentorship Program for Photographers in the fabulous Landscape Photography mentorship program that I was still working with (still am, actually). I also think of my fellow mentees,  with a tip of the hat to you all, knowing how you are taking such great photographs after our training.

You are seeing a bay off the Ottawa River, with the town of Arnprior on the opposite bank. The woods through which I walked to find this were still and peaceful. If I were to think of Canadian landscapes that would always remind me of being in this part of the world, this would certainly be near the top of the list.
