Frisbee Lesson #1 (100/365)

The day of the first Frisbee lesson arrived. The snow was (mostly) melted, it was possible to throw it and not have it disappear from view. Joni was used to the idea of bringing back her blue ball to be thrown for her. You can almost see Joni's brain ticking over in this image. She had seen it thrown for her, she had run after it, had managed to pick it up (not easy when it landed on the concrete, not as easy as a ball, anyway) and could see that she was supposed to know what to do next. She was just not ready to give it up quite yet. 

She still (after this was taken, on April 20th) enjoys doing a victory lap or two before bringing it back to be thrown again. But she has the idea now of how it works. A whole lifetime of Frisbee catching is before her. Next to playing with Aria (another border collie) nothing will get rid of her pent up energy as well as a Frisbee game!

Sometimes a Dog Just Needs to Run in the Woods (96/365)

The day this was taken, Joni and I were out inspecting damage done to the woods by the many winter storms we had this year. Joni wasn't too bothered by the fallen branches as she just loves to jump over any obstacles and to grab sticks to chew for a few minutes. There were a lot of broken branches and some were the size of small trees. Some had fallen on the apple trees, breaking branches as they fell. There is a lot of clearing up to do.

She will soon be 5 months old as I write this, but this was taken on April 16, so over a week ago now.

There's Nothing Quite Like a Good Stick to Chew – 91/365

Yesterday Joni and I went for a walk in search of signs of spring for me to photograph. There were bare patches where the snow has melted and we managed to walk around quite a bit of the garden on the grass alone. There has been a lot of storm damage from the winter, most noticeably branches that have fallen down and lots of twigs and debris scattered all over the brown grass that's only just seen the light of day since the fall.  Joni (who has taken her role of photographic assistant seriously) looked for good props for an early spring photograph. This was her favourite and she obligingly modelled it for you all. She put on what she thought was her most attractive stick chewing pose for you all. There were no (other) signs of spring … not yet.

Enjoy any spring weather you might be having, wherever you are. Yesterday as you see it wasn't too bad. Today we have pouring rain. Have a great weekend everyone, no matter where you are.

Joni in Paper Camera – 85/365

It's so hard to get out and take any photographs with so much destruction, rebuilding and in the meantime chaos happening around me. The one who seems to b completely unfazed by the work is Joni. Of course she is happy as long as she can find bits of things to chew and play with. Here I just had my phone and my Paper Camera app, so decided to play with it. For my friends on #SketchguruSaturday – the fun curators +paula contreras  +Christina Lihani  +Amanda Wyckoff No, it's not art. But it's different. And experimenting can lead to great things. (I'm not a fan of phone photos usually.)
