Red Dahlia

Red Dahlia

Red Dahlia

This gorgeous red flower is on a dahlia given to us by a good friend. The wonderful thing with gardening is sharing plants with your friends and neighbours and this is a prime example. Many of our other dahlias did not do so well this year, but this beauty really brightened the bed. The bonus is that when we look at it we think of our friend. Isn’t that often the way with gifts? So those generous and loving people who give little presents to their friends are always remembered for their kindness, which is such a warm thought. Chinese Forget-Me-Not

Chinese Forget Me Nots

Chinese Forget-Me-Nots

This little patch of tiny blue flowers appeared (yes, you guessed it) in my wildflowers patch as a delightful tall late season forget-me-not. They apparently are Chinese ones. If they come from China I guess they are not exactly local wildflowers, but as they are such pretty little flowers I am not inclined to complain too much. Enjoy this little blue surprise today, my friends. You can click or tap the image above to view in large in the gallery directly now, a new development on my posts. Morning Glory

Morning Glories

Someone had the inspiration and thoughtfulness to plant some morning glory seeds at the side of a back road, so that they climb up and swirl around a utility pole. They are such a delight to see, in this rich colour with their centres looking almost as if they are glowing from their hearts. I don’t know who I should thank for this gift to everyone who passes by this beautiful display but I am paying it forward in sharing it with you all. Feel free to continue the giving yourself by sharing this post with a friend, if you like. If you do that, the pleasure is exponentially increased! Pink Rhododendron

Pink Rhododendron

This lovely flower was almost hiding from view under some trees in our garden and so I came upon it completely by chance. Well, perhaps not completely by chance as I was cutting the grass under those trees and there it was! I imagine that I have seen it at some point in the past years, but it had really become so overgrown that any blooms it might have had were buried in the undergrowth. Steven had spent some time last year cutting back the dead wood and the unproductive sections to give it some air and light and it really paid off this year. It is such a delicate, beautiful pink colour, quite a different one from the reds and white ones we have. These flowers really do very well in our acid soil and under the mature trees and always give me a thrill of delight when I examine the flowers up close as they are so beautifully designed. This also works in so many other areas of life, on reflection. So enjoy your day, filled with beauty or the hard work that might lead to it. View all posts on the Home page.  A Flower a Day #374
