Garden Coreopsis

Garden Coreopsis
Garden Coreopsis

There seem to be so many of these calliopsis, coreopsis type flowers with different markings and petals, each of which has its own beauty. This is another (yes, another) from my rewilded patch, which, as I said the other day, is turning into a treasure trove of flowers for my project. This sunny bloom has lovely serrated golden petals surrounding its small, compact centre so that it’s hard to believe it is not some exotic plant from a hothouse, but growing wild(ish) among the grasses and weeds in Nova Scotia. I hope it brings a smile to the start of your day and week, my friends. View all posts on the Home page.  A Flower a Day #373

Cornflower Blue

Cornflower
Cornflower

Between me and the raccoons (and not to forget the skunks) we have managed to provide a great selection of flowers for my project in our rewilded patches. I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but once again, this lovely bloom was from one of these. I don’t think I have seen cornflowers growing wild around here and these were sown by me, obviously, but next year if they reappear I think I will be allowed to officially classify them as ‘wild’ flowers. They are such a wonderful blue, no wonder they have a paint colour named after them! 😉 Have a lovely day everyone, I hope you get some sun as well to bring some more cheer to you. Vetch with Skipper Butterflies

Vetch with Skipper Butterflies

A friend in England shared a photo of lovely vetch and when I commented to say I liked it, she agreed, but said they aren’t so great in the flower garden. I suppose that is a nuisance, but I do love to see their lovely purple-blue colour. These are growing in the field next to our barn, so not a nuisance to anyone and as we can see here, obviously the insects are getting nourishment from them. If you look closely at these skippers you can see what looks like little black threads coming out of their mouths and I think those are their tongues! I am amazed that these are shown in the photograph. I only heard about skipper butterflies last week and the next thing I know I find them in the field, so it shows we never stop learning if we keep our eyes open. Hugs to you all on this Saturday. Black Locust Flower

Black Locust
Black Locust

We are back in the trees again with this beautiful pink and white cluster of flowers of the Black Locusts that grow at the top of our garden. It is strange that I have only seriously looked at the flowers of trees rarely in the past, probably because they are so often higher than I can reach or see easily. This project has inspired me to make more of an effort as far as they are concerned and these, happily, were hanging low enough for me to really examine and photograph. I never realised that these had such beautiful blossoms. If you have never been able to look closely at them, I am happy to share with you today. Enjoy your Friday, my friends.
