Zinnia

Zinnias are a new discovery for me. I must have seen them at some point in my longish life, but have never taken enough notice to really ‘see’ them or even find out their names. I think I tended to lump flowers into broad groups, without giving them the recognition that each family (and branch) deserves. As soon as I took the time to examine each beautiful plant and bloom, their qualities and differences blossomed to make them distinctive and special for me. I wonder if that’s why I can’t stop photographing them? I suppose it’s the same with our friends and acquaintances. It’s when we take the time to properly see and appreciate their beautiful individual qualities that they really shine for us. Thank you, all of you shining friends of mine! 🙂 You can click or tap the image above to view in large in the gallery directly now, a new development on my posts. Dahlia Pinnata

Dahlia Pinnata

Dahlia Pinnata

As I’m writing this today we have a beautiful bright, cool autumn morning, with the sun shining through the still green leaves. It won’t be long – forecast to be in only a few days – before the temperature drops so low at night that the leaves are shocked into brilliant colour. The colourful flowers growing in gardens, fields and farms around us are fast fading and going to seed in preparation for dormancy and I feel I should be doing the same! But with such a beautiful sunny day and this lovely dahlia, I am cheered just thinking of the flowers I have yet to share with you all to brighten any winter gloom. Enjoy today’s lovely warm bloom in its tight pattern. And enjoy your day, my friends. You can click or tap the image above to view in large in the gallery directly now, a new development on my posts. Sweet Peas

Sweet Peas

Sweet Peas

I fear I am beginning to sound like a broken record. Forgive me! Can you guess where this little duo was growing? The sweet peas were almost all finished in late August when I visited the flower farm, but these were the only ones I had seen this year, so I searched in the beds of tangled tendrils and spent pods and found these that were still hanging on, to feature today for you. Late bloomers they may be, but the grace in their bowed heads was undeniable and so distinctive of this beautiful flower. The message? There is hope for all of us late bloomers! Pay no attention to what is going on around you and bloom in your own time. The season would not have been complete without this little stem so it has a special pride of place as I’m sure you will agree. Green Hydrangea

Green Hydrangea

Green Hydrangea

A particularly beautiful and prolific row of hydrangeas along our walk produces huge green pyramids which slowly turn greenish white and then develop pink tinges. I took several photographs of them and so you can expect to see different views from this lovely plant. On reflection, I had better take my camera and get some photos of this latest stage (pinkish, whitish green) so you can see the later stage. This is so full of bloom that a single stem would serve for a bridal bouquet on its own, I’m sure. Have a lovely day everyone, with special moments scattered liberally among the more humdrum ones – or even that you can see the humdrum for the special it often hides just under the surface.
