Dahlia Pinnata

As I’m writing this today we have a beautiful bright, cool autumn morning, with the sun shining through the still green leaves. It won’t be long – forecast to be in only a few days – before the temperature drops so low at night that the leaves are shocked into brilliant colour. The colourful flowers growing in gardens, fields and farms around us are fast fading and going to seed in preparation for dormancy and I feel I should be doing the same! But with such a beautiful sunny day and this lovely dahlia, I am cheered just thinking of the flowers I have yet to share with you all to brighten any winter gloom. Enjoy today’s lovely warm bloom in its tight pattern. And enjoy your day, my friends. You can click or tap the image above to view in large in the gallery directly now, a new development on my posts. 1. Like a prehistoric eye, its steady gaze contemplates the world before it, giving nothing away. To those of us glancing back, we can’t help but admire its perfect symmetry and soft, subtle colour. I stand in awe of nature once again. Thank you, Ellie, for today’s gift.

    1. You are right! That does almost look like reptilian scales around an eye! Thanks for that vision. The natural world is so often amazing, awesome, I agree.

  2. Lovely Ellie. It is a beautiful bright color cheerful spot in our day. Love the way you captured it with the pedals on the very outside fully opened and then you can gradually see how the ones towards the center are opening or ready to open. Thanks again hope you have a great day hugs to you and Steve.
