Slender Vervain

Slender Vervain

Slender Vervain

This lovely grouping of small bright red flowers was photographed back in September during our visit to the local garden where I photographed the echinacea I posted a couple of days ago. You remember perhaps, it was the ‘do it yourself’ post, where I couldn’t think of anything to say. Now I realise why I was at a bit of a loss for words. Don’t misunderstand me. It was absolutely wonderful wandering around the grounds and being able to photograph flowers everywhere. But that was just the trouble. It was all laid out of a plate for me. Where was the story for each flower picture? There wasn’t one! One or two had a particular tale to tell, which you will know when you meet them. One you have already met, with the dragonflies mating on the flower from a few weeks ago. But for the rest, they are simply beautiful and worth a photograph to cheer the day. So I hope this is what this does for you all. View all posts on the Home page.  A Flower a Day #424

Late Season Marigold

Late Season Marigold

Late Season Marigold

I wish it weren’t ‘late’ for everything floral these days, but the seasons are progressing relentlessly and so any recent photos will inevitably be late. It won’t be too long until I go back into my archives and bring you some ‘mid’ and ‘early’ ones to get us through the winter. On the other hand, these late ones have a lovely rich quality and I do not want to miss any of them before they are finally finished. I am again bathed in golden sunshine, though it’s cold outside. But at least we have no snow yet, as I was reminded by my photos that this time last year there was already a dusting. I can wait for that, although it is lovely to see. Have a lovely day, whatever the season. View all posts on the Home page.  A Flower a Day #423

Echinacea

Echinacea, Purple Coneflower

Echinacea, Purple Coneflower

Another stage of those beautiful purple coneflowers, this is a lovely delicate one, without a trace of purple visible. I think this came from our visit to the local gardens opened to the public. You possibly remember that visit, as I described the automated lawnmower they had. Today I am going to let you fill in your thoughts while looking at it, as I’m sure you have just as creative minds as I do. It’s a kind of ‘do it yourself’ post. I supply the flower, you supply the words! Please write them to me in the comments if you feel inclined. I do wish you all a lovely day, my friends. Pink Green Hydrangea

Pink Green Hydrangea

Pink Green Hydrangea

Speaking of creative names for flowers (and posts) as I was the other day, today’s doesn’t leave you in doubt as to what you are seeing, I hope. A while back I shared a white and green domed variety that I explained was changing colour through to pink and green. I am pretty sure (but not 100%, I have to confess) that this photograph is that same plant, later on in the development. For the sake of the story today, let’s go with that! It’s amazing how flowers such as this, and I think it’s most common in hydrangeas, can change and develop through the course of their lives. They provide an ever evolving source of photographs, all I have to do is to make sure to have my camera with me and smile at the home owners in a friendly, apologetic manner as I trespass on their lawns to take my pictures. 🙂 So here we have the originally green and white and now pink and green and white hydrangea to wish you all a lovely day.
