Milkweed Seedhead

Milkweed Seedhead

Milkweed Seedhead

This is not strictly a flower photograph, I know, but I hope that you will humour me and just enjoy the delightful seedhead with its fluff. The garden and some unsprayed roadsides are full of these fluffy white bolls, almost like a cotton crop, bringing promise of more of these plants for next year’s monarch butterflies. Enjoy this change of subject and the rest of your day, my friends. View all posts on the Home page.  A Flower a Day #429

Pink Zinnia and Bee

Pink Zinnia and Bee

What better flower and visitor could we have today than this pink zinnia and its bee? The purpose of this project is to cheer and bring a bright moment to our days. So this is that moment for today. With thanks as always to the local flower farm, Seven Acres Farm and Jocelyn, who let me wander at will with my camera. The farm is in winter mode now, but I have them all here! Linaria

Linaria, Common Toadflax

Believe it or not, these pretty little flowers are not quite finished blooming here, unlike almost everything else! They brighten the fields, ditches and roadsides for months, looking so jaunty. As I write this it is grey and miserable outside with a fine drizzle. So whatever the weather where you are, these little happy sprays might bring a bit of cheer. Happy Saturday everyone! And don’t miss today’s Caturday bonus post: All the Cats in All the Barns. View all posts on the Home page.  A Flower a Day #427

Malva

Malva, Pink or Musk Mallow

Malva, Pink or Musk Mallow

One of the people that we stop to chat with on our walks confessed to me that he leaves the weeds at the side of his garden next to the road because of me. He has always pulled them out, but since I started taking photographs of wild flowers, including his, he decided that he would leave them to grow. At times he gets a bit frustrated as he sees them as untidy, but he said he stops himself from destroying them for me. And for you. And this beautiful mallow is one that he left to grow. Every time I pass his house I remember his selflessness in this. Such small acts of thoughtfulness is what makes our relationships with our neighbours so warm, even if we don’t know them very well. So this post is for Tim and other neighbours who perform small acts of kindness, in thanks from us all. View all posts on the Home page.  A Flower a Day #425
