Project 366

A project I undertook in 2012 to share one photograph I took each day of that leap year. The subjects are diverse and show the development of my own photographic skills as I learned how to use my camera and compose photographs as I wanted them to be seen and enjoyed.

Flowers on the Doorstep – Thanks to My Friends

On White - Ellie Kennard 2013
On White – Ellie Kennard 2013

I have written so often about friends and friendship … but I make no apology for doing so. Friends enrich our lives, fill us with joy, allow us to share their happinesses and their sadnesses as they share in ours. Friends just know when you need that special something to make you feel better. They visit, or they telephone or hangout. Or they share virtual things such as messages and flowers

And then we have friends who live nearby and make a secret visit in the evening when all is quiet and who creep up and leave a bunch of flowers on the doorstep. Then, when Joni won’t stop barking and we go to see what is going on, there is that surprise, all bright and cheerful and carrying the message “We love you!”. Thank you Katheryn and Norma. I know it was you two!

Roses in the Vineyard – or Farm Friday Tomorrow! Be There or Be Square!

In album Farming

If you see roses in the vineyards (in Europe at least) don't think that they are just to add a splash of colour. They serve a very useful purpose as they will alert the vineyard owner to the presence of mildew. This attacks the roses first as they are more sensitive to this disease than the vines. This early warning allows the cultivator to prepare a solution of copper sulphate (bouillie bourdelaise in France) to spray the vines to protect them. In Nova Scotia, where I found these at the Habitant Vineyard near us, I doubt that they serve the same useful purpose, but are decorative, I suspect. I stand to be corrected if someone else knows better.

Get your farming photographs ready for tomorrow everyone! We on the Farm Friday team – myself (+Ellie Kennard), +Steven Kennard  and our own Danish 'Farm Girl' +Sofie Løve Forsberg are already getting our overalls on and getting geared up to share your wonderful images with our great #farmfriday  theme! Don't forget to mention the page ( +Farm Friday) as well as each of the curators and to tag your post with #farmfriday so you will be a part of the farm party we have planned for tomorrow!

Sunset at the Shore in Silhouette

In album Weekly Photo Project 2013

After taking the photograph I posted the other day, on that same evening at the shore, I started back up the beach and saw my dear husband, Steven sitting on the bench, waiting patiently for me. He was silhouetted against the sky with the setting sun behind him. I hadn't even realized that this would be the theme for this week as I have been rather out of things. But it fits for my submission.
