Project 366

A project I undertook in 2012 to share one photograph I took each day of that leap year. The subjects are diverse and show the development of my own photographic skills as I learned how to use my camera and compose photographs as I wanted them to be seen and enjoyed.

Spent Magnolia Seed Case 36/365

The magnolia tree by our house produces fantastic seeds in pods, during the month of October. (See my postings showing these seeds in the links below this paragraph.) Once the seeds have fallen out, the spent cases cling to the ends of their support twigs. They are twisted and gnarled and have a different appeal with their muted tones and interesting textures. To the left of this spent seed case is a fuzzy bud, waiting for the spring. In late April they are in full bloom, with the flowers coming out before the leaves. (The link to the posting for the blooming tree is below the two links for the seeds.)

Today there are small flurries of snow falling on these before the big storm hits. It was hard to take a sharp photograph of these today as the chickadees are grabbing seeds from the nearby feeders and flying off to eat them, landing on other branches on this tree and I was surprised how the weight of their small, light bodies could cause this branch to move too.

To see the case with the seeds in them go to the first two posts linked here. They really are amazing to see:  https://plus.google.com/105804664540125819976/posts/fEwnAeLazfw

When I Grow Up – 35/365

Keeping with the theme of virtual trees today (the earlier one today was a reflection) this one is a mere shadow. The shadows across the snow stretched so far the trees seemed like giants. I liked the way the twig almost seemed to be miniature of the branch shadows.

Reflecting on Ontario – 34/365

This was taken on our trip through Ontario last October. While Steven was teaching his workshops in Ottawa, I got to explore the countryside. The weather was bright on this one particular day and the leaves reflected in the water had a rich golden tone. They almost looked like a mosaic. I feel warmer just looking at this and remembering how peaceful it all was.

This is another day when I get to treat myself by going through photographs I took in the past that have not been shared. I have had this one in my sights for a while and so today is the day it will see the light (and just to confuse matters further, it is for yesterday's submission).

Rocket and Joni – A Happy Time – 33/365

Yesterday was Joni's first day out to visit other dogs. Our friends have 4 dogs of different ages and personalities in a very calm and happy environment so it was a perfect introduction. All went well with everyone behaving themselves beautifully. Joni felt completely at ease and made friends easily.

I photographed Rocket once before last year and here you see him having fun with Joni. Joni is now 9 weeks old and growing fast.
