Peony Bud

So much promise is held in a flower bud, especially a peony bud, one kissed by rain like this one. It seems to hold all the beauty tightly, just waiting for it to burst out and delight us with the colour and delicacy of the petals and the intoxicating scent. We just get a sense of the first unfurling of the petal in this one, reminding us of late Spring or early Summer flowers to come next year. Let us hold onto that thought through any snow, cold or rain that greets us today. Flower a Day #455

Fall Colours 2021

Tree Tops Colour

Today’s Fall Colour 2021 bonus is the first one I took this fall, when, on a walk through the woods I spotted these brilliant tree tops, the first to be touched by the frost this year.

Red Nasturtium

Red Nasturtium

Red Nasturtium

It’s time for another incredible edible flower, the spicy nasturtium! This little red one was growing among the tangle of tomato vines in our raised bed and I frequently picked them for sprinkling on our salads in the late summer. The lovely petals and inner details of them are so pretty it almost seems a shame to eat them, but they do add such a lovely splash of colour and a hit of spiciness on top of the lettuce and other salad vegetables. I hope you have a delicious bit of spicy today in your day, friends. A flower a day #454

I also have a bonus below this! Rather than publishing a single post with fall colour photographs, I thought it would be a nice idea to feature one with flower photographs daily. So here is the first of that series, a leaf of the smoke tree I shared the other day. I took several of these fascinating leaf patterns:

Pink Buddleia

Pink Buddleia

Pink Buddleia

Today is another Pink Flower Day for your Thursday viewing. While I have featured the deep red one we have, this is a little trickier to photograph well, being too close to the house. Although photographically challenging, it appears not to present any problems to bees, butterflies or other insects, which is, after all, the reason we planted it in the first place. That, and the lovely blooms, of course. We are completely bereft of butterflies, bees and other insects now (and the flowers as well, of course), but the photograph of this spear of tiny blooms brings back memories of past visitors and hopes for more for next year. Have a good day, my friends. I send out warm hugs to all. View all posts on the Home page.  A Flower a Day #453

Smoke Tree

Smoke Tree

Smoke Tree

These extraordinary trees never cease to amaze me, as they really do look exactly as if they are enveloped in smoke! The flowers (though not exactly the way we think of flowers) are so interesting, but the leaves of this particular tree or bush are extraordinary in the fall. I got some photographs of them and will share them when I share my Fall Colours 2021 post. I will notify everyone of this when I do. Meanwhile, enjoy the smoky flowers of this today.
