Smoke Tree
These extraordinary trees never cease to amaze me, as they really do look exactly as if they are enveloped in smoke! The flowers (though not exactly the way we think of flowers) are so interesting, but the leaves of this particular tree or bush are extraordinary in the fall. I got some photographs of them and will share them when I share my Fall Colours 2021 post. I will notify everyone of this when I do. Meanwhile, enjoy the smoky flowers of this today. December 21 Gallery :
A gallery of flowers shared on a daily basis to cheer myself and hopefully you, the viewer too, during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic period. Posts from December 2021

Looking a bit like coral in this shot, the smoke tree gives its best flowers while growing in bad soil. They are a relative of the sumach tree and are a more interesting and decorative addition to a garden than its cousin the sumach. This is one application of ‘smoke’ which forecasts only good things and beauty. Thank you, Ellie, for clearing the smoke on the smoke tree (sorry).
Great comment Janet, thank you. You have nothing to apologise for! You are right, it does look like coral here. The two specimens I mention both are found in sadly neglected plots (garden is too pretty a word for their environments), which makes sense in view of the soil conditions you mention. The leaves of this are wonderful in the fall. Wait a couple of days and you will see… Thanks again.
Thanks Ellie they are very intriguing. But I’ve never had a real close look at the flower. Thanks again for sharing hope you have a great day. Hugs to you and Steve.
They deserved documenting, I thought, though really a challenge to photograph. Thanks Linda. Hugs back.
