A Flower a Day

Umbellate Aster

Umbellate Aster

I had a comment from a viewer the other day that he wouldn’t have recognised the flower I posted as an aster (hawksbeard, the yellow dandelion-like one). So today we are having another World Wild Aster day, but this time with a readily recognisable member of the family. These look like the part of the family whose hair is uncombed and is starting to lose some teeth. They are beautiful despite this appearance and certainly worthy of a day of celebration. The light was lovely where it fell on them in places. I send a hug to you all and a hope that you all enjoy your days, whatever you are doing. Flower a Day #529 View all posts on the Home page.

Bursting With Light

Dahlia Bursting With Light

Dahlia Bursting With Light

Today is another dahlia day with this glorious burst of light. This is, we think, the Tahiti Sunrise variety and it was growing in our own garden. I love how this almost looks like spectacular fireworks going off in the dark sky, with smaller bursts around and behind it. We try so hard to reproduce the beauty in the natural world around us and fall short of the mark every time! If we can’t recreate it, we can continue to admire and appreciate it whenever we see it. Have a lovely day, full of such beauty wherever you see it. Flower a Day #528 View all posts on the Home page.

Campanula Punctata

Campanula Punctata, Spotted Bellflower

Campanula Punctata, Spotted Bellflower

These pretty flowers were growing in the front of the local high school. I originally shared a photograph of them very early on in this project, in this post Spotted Bellflower and described them as ‘gentle on the eyes’. I don’t even remember photographing them last year, so I should make another diary entry to look out for them again in September. Bells were what rang when I was in school and I admit they were pretty strident, but from what we hear from our house, it sounds as if students here have more of a siren sounding to alert them of classes changing etc. Can you imagine what stress these sounds must pile on to an already stressful day for school children? Long gone are the days when a teacher stood outside a small school in the playground, ringing a handbell and the children formed orderly lines before going into class. For those of us whose lives are no longer ordered by the sound of wailing sirens or ear splitting bells, I wish you all a gentle day, whatever you are doing. Lady in Red

Red Pelargonium

Red Pelargonium

Today we have something that is no shrinking violet, my friends! No, today we have a vibrant, bold, even flamboyant red pelargonium. When I was looking through my photographs to share today, this glamorous beauty fairly danced out and hit me in the eye with its bright pop of colour. It took me back to that day in late September almost eighteen months ago, at the start of my project, when a walk with my camera yielded a rich abundance of growing things like this one, to store up for the daily flower postings. I hope you have a bright, happy day today to match the exuberance of this gorgeous flower. Flower a Day #526 View all posts on the Home page.
