A Flower a Day

Drummonds Phlox and Announcement

Drummonds Phlox

Drummonds Phlox

This little Phlox flower, blushing so prettily in the centre, is the offering for today. I am making this post with mixed feelings but have decided that now is the time to set a date for my final posting on this project. The last one will be made tomorrow, February 28. Most places are opening up and beginning to return to a new kind of ‘normal’, which will bring relief to many. Our own part of the world has announced just such a reopening and relaxing of restrictions very soon, though this will not mean any changes for Steven and me personally.  The world scene is also shifting and life is changing for us all in different ways. I do know that most people appreciate seeing cheering and happy posts in their mailbox or feeds every day and I will not stop making posts of one kind or another with that idea in mind. However it will not be a post every day. I hope you will enjoy them as much as many of you have told me you have been doing on a daily basis. Have a lovely day, my friends. Clivia Memories

Clivia Flower

Clivia Flower

I saw this photograph of the clivia flowers in my folder from last year and memories of that photography session flooded back. It was taken on March 25th, in a local pottery studio. There was an evening class in session, with several potters busy at their stations. The atmosphere was calm, but at the same time I felt the creativity in the room as though it was tangible. The late sun was flooding in the picture window where these plants were all arranged and the golden light hit these flowers and lit the corner of the room where I sat to take the pictures. We are soon into March again and this photo has lifted my spirits by reminding me that the evening sun will be shining here well past 8pm in just a few short weeks. I am hoping that we are breaking the back of the worst of the very cold days, with a warm rainy day today, although it will be plunging well below freezing again tonight. We haven’t got long to wait, so hang in there everyone! Hugs to all. Flower a Day #532 View all posts on the Home page.

Purple and Cream Dahlia

Purple and Cream Dahlia

Purple and Cream Dahlia

I know it was only the other day (and a few days before that) that I shared a dahlia, so I hope you are not all thinking “not another dahlia”. This pretty little thing caught my eye and I simply couldn’t resist it. The colours are so clean and bright, with the freshness of a young flower that will soon open up that purple (or mauve) centre and invite all insects inside! The little one to the left almost seems to be directing us to take a look at the beauty about to unfold. Enjoy the beauty around you, my friends and have a warm hug from both Steven and me. Red Hydrangea

Red Hydrangea

Red Hydrangea

This unusual colour of hydrangea makes a real change from the usual blues, pinks and creams. I wonder what in the soil gives this colour? Or is it something in the genetics, or both together? We have all seen unusually coloured flowers being sold in commercial settings and then found out that they were that colour because of dyes that were somehow infused into the petals. Whatever the case, today’s flower is a bright, cheerful bundle of blossoms with those pretty little yellow centres to draw the eye. I hope that your day is a happy one, with maybe a touch of the unusual in some way to bring some delight to you. Flower a Day #530 View all posts on the Home page.
