Red Hydrangea
This unusual colour of hydrangea makes a real change from the usual blues, pinks and creams. I wonder what in the soil gives this colour? Or is it something in the genetics, or both together? We have all seen unusually coloured flowers being sold in commercial settings and then found out that they were that colour because of dyes that were somehow infused into the petals. Whatever the case, today’s flower is a bright, cheerful bundle of blossoms with those pretty little yellow centres to draw the eye. I hope that your day is a happy one, with maybe a touch of the unusual in some way to bring some delight to you. Flower a Day #530 View all posts on the Home page.

February 2022 Gallery :
A gallery of flowers shared on a daily basis to cheer myself and hopefully you, the viewer too, during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic period. Posts from February 2022.
To get that rich red, the hydrangea’s soil has to be nudged towards alkaline. This can be done by adding lime to the soil in spring and fall. Done correctly, the reward will be this stunning red and a lot of oooh’s and aaaah’s. Just imagine a whole bush of those blooms. Thank you, Ellie, for that mental image, all as good as yours.
Natural Photoshop effect, as Len suggested! What a relatively easy way to colour our garden displays. Thanks so much, Janet. Enjoy the snow (if you have it as we do). XO
Photoshop Ellie …. all good in Oz …..
Ha ha Len! Nature’s Photoshop, certainly. Apparently another reader took some ‘regular’ hydrangeas and moved them to her new garden in England. They flowered this colour there for the first time. I’m glad to hear all’s good with you.
That is a very unusual color for the hydrangea. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it before. But I love how all the different little flowers together make the one big bloom with all their little eyes in the centers. Nice and bright and cheery thanks ever so much for sharing. Hope you have a great cheery day. Hugs to you and Steve
I agree that this colour is really unusual, can’t even remember where I photographed it! Oh, maybe it was Home Depot last year. Anyway, you are right, those little eyes in the centres are sweet. Hugs back to you both.
