Farewell to the Plus

Medford, Nova Scotia sunset – Ellie Kennard 2019

It’s the end of an era for the best social network that ever happened. For those who didn’t ‘get’ Google+, this post will be meaningless. Just enjoy the sunset photo.

For those of us who loved the interactions we had on there, who learned so much, who shared so much knowledge around the world, so freely and with such passion, I don’t need to say anything. You already know (and have probably read other eulogies) what we have lost. We lost it a while ago, to be honest, when they began what we didn’t know was the disintegration of what made the network so great. So today is finally when ‘the fat lady sings’.

  1. What a sad article, and yet I can identify with everything you’ve said, Ellie. I joined G+ in 2013 and I can honestly say it changed my life. Not only did I make wonderful friends (you included) from around the world – this could never have happened before – but I was inspired to write and to photograph, to return to my Art roots and to focus with greater clarity on the things which matter in life, not just my frantic, energy-sapping job. I could go on…
Thank you for putting all this into words, it feels less isolating. And now: the future beckons and we will continue as many of those friendships as we can. You are a star 🙂 x

    1. Thank you for the kind comment, Prue. I feel strangely freed now, honestly. It’s happened and done and I can get on with the real world. You are very much in the real world for me, strangely!

  2. Today is a sad day, Ellie. Cannot even find words to say more.
But I believe in the future. We will continue our photographic journey together and no one can stop us. Am optimistic, Ellie. Thanks for all you did right from the beginning. I joined in July 2015 and pioneers like you seemed to have unfolded the red carpets for us new comers!
    Thank you again!

    1. We have so much to remember in such a creative, positive light. Thank you for your comment on this post, Françoise. You are a precious part of those wonderful memories that will remain. Only 4 years? I feel as if I have always known you. You all deserved the red carpet. I wish it had not been pulled out from under us! But onward and upward to brighter and better things. The future is positive. I feel it.
Red sky at night means a beautiful day tomorrow!
