I didn't even know that this tree was in our garden! It seems to be some kind of a nut tree, with these empty cases covered in these lovely twisty tendrils, remaining on the tree. If someone who knows the tree can enlighten me as to what it is, I will update the post with the information. The empty cases had such a wonderful structure with these curly tendrils and the furry case cover that I really wanted to show you all. I had seen it while walking Joni around in the snow and made a mental note to come back minus dog but plus camera, at a time when the weak sun might just about hit it. I had a little wait when I got back, but the light did get to it and here it is.

Thanks a lot +Janet Patterson – so right you are.
This is wonderful! Amazing how nature is beautiful independent of the season.
That's another great thing about winter, +Ellie Kennard, we get to see the 'other side' of plants, mostly, that we've taken for granted all the rest of the year. Beautifully profiled.
