White Knight

White Knight, Sweet Alyssum

White Knight, Sweet Alyssum

. Today’s Flower a Day treat is the hybrid Sweet Alyssum called White Knight, which to me looks like lots of constellations of happy little faces. These are such common flowers, I’m sure you all have seen them at least once, if not every year, as they are frequently used as bedding plants. The common is often overlooked, so, as usual, I have decided to shine a spotlight on a tiny bunch in the crowd to bring it to our attention and hope you appreciate seeing these in an up close and personal way. After this I will never look at clumps of alyssum in the same way again, but will seek out their tiny details. Happy Wednesday, everyone! Flower a Day #466 View all posts on the Home page.

  1. A perfect constellation of alyssum clusters…so sweet. Not only do they look darling, but they smell divine, and the aroma intensifies as the weather cools in the fall. For these reasons, they are always included in my summer containers… a perennial favourite of mine. Thank you, Ellie, for shining a light on the white knight.

    1. I am always happy to shine a light on beauty, and if it could also emit some of the scent as we viewed the photo, that would be perfect! Until that time comes, we will have to imagine the perfume as we endure the blustery and scentless winter months. I’m sure your summer containers are glorious, especially if they include these lovely Knights. Thanks Janet.

  2. Thanks Ellie they are sweet little flowers. Taking a closer look I noticed in the centers that if you zoom in really close. You will see there’s a bit of yellow orange and then a burgundy on the stem of those little center ones. I love the petals as well four very perfect petals on each Little flower. Thanks again for sharing hope you have a nice Wednesday. Hugs to you and Steve

    1. I knew that you would find the details in this, Linda. Fascinating how they are designed and I know there is a purpose in each tiny detail we see (and more besides). Thanks again. We need some sun, though, today! I’ll bring something tomorrow in hopes that it helps! Hugs to you all.
