Marigold and Friend
I like to plant marigolds in my garden, whether for pest control in vegetable beds, or just for a lovely bright display. This year I used seeds I had in an envelope, starting them in little pods and transplanting them when they germinated and were big enough to deal with real life. For some reason, they have varied in size from about 6 inches tall, to over 6 feet in height! Don’t ask me how the size difference came about, as I thought these were all the same variety. The other odd thing is that some are the deep fluorescent orange, thickly petalled, that I associate with marigolds from my past. Some are the same density of bloom, but a bright yellow colour, like this one and have fewer, but frilled petals as you see here. When this is the case, you can see the details in that centre. I think I have even had a few with what were almost a single layer of petals in that light yellow. Whatever the shape or colour, insects seem to find them useful, which is one of the reasons I grow them. Enjoy the bright flower for your day, friends. Hugs to all. View all posts on the Home page. A gallery of flowers shared on a daily basis to cheer myself and hopefully you, the viewer too, during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic period. Posts from October 2021
I can see why her friend was attracted to Marigold. She’s just come from the hairdresser and has a very pleasing new ‘do’. She positively glows! And appears to be vibrating with vitality! Thank you, Ellie, for getting my mojo going too.
Yes, she surely is glowing, as Marigolds excel at doing just that. I think they are getting a little tired now, but they are still giving us bright patches as we slide into the browns of the autumn garden. Thank you Janet.
A lovely bright color on this otherwise dreary day
I do love the center as well plus the little visitor really shows the colors up on the bees. Hope you’re having a great day. Hugs to you and Steve.
I am told that the little visitor is a female green sweat bee. Never heard the name, but the person who commented probably knows his bees. Thanks a lot, Linda.
I love it but I’ve never seen this variety before. Can you tell me what seeds you used?
I wish I could, Joanne. I have a white envelope with the words “French Marigolds” in my father-in-law’s handwriting. But clearly there is more than one variety in there. The leaves on them all are typical marigold leaves, but more than that I don’t know! (Maybe Spanish marigolds?) Sorry, Joanne. But I’m glad you love it!
