One of the more surprising of my finds in this project, this garden sorrel is something so common that it is everywhere. Even so, I have never ‘seen’ it. I was looking at this reddish weedy grassy thing all over my neighbour’s unmown lawn and decided to try to photograph it as it seemed to be in flower. It wasn’t until I saw it enlarged on my computer screen that I really appreciated the real beauty of this common plant. My eyesight is not good enough to have noticed all the detail in these, so I really encourage any who can to click to view the gallery and inspect it close up. It is so worth doing. Once again, something common that doesn’t deserve to be taken for granted. Yes, yes, isn’t it lovely? And possibly edible too (not the flowers but the leaves and roots). It’s so marvelous to have the time to stop and ‘see’ what’s been right before our eyes all along. Another silver lining to an otherwise hideous time when we’ve been forced to halt our mindless busyness and take a deep breath. It is lovely. You don’t really notice the bright red until you look. I’ll have to keep an eye open for it. I don’t think I’ve seen it before.
It’s really common on scrub land, you won’t have to look far, Linda. Maybe at your neighbour’s. Yes, that red was a nice surprise. Most of it seems to be green or yellow brown. Maybe the red is another stage on from the green and brown?
