Early Green Hydrangea

Early Green Hydrangea

Early Green Hydrangea

I seem to have featured this particular display of hydrangeas at so many stages, but I make no apologies, as I loved seeing and documenting the progression. This is really early in the opening of the flowers, with the delicate, pale green colour dominant in the smallest buds, giving way to the whiter, fuller blooms below. There is something beautiful to appreciate in all stages of flowers, as we have all remarked many times, but surely one of the most appreciated is the freshness of new beauty as it appears. Seeing this photograph has taken me back to yet another unencumbered walk, this time at the end of August, presumably still in warm days. I feel the same warmth today… but sitting here in the living room, dressed in a warm sweater, with the wood stove burning brightly behind me. There is deep snow on the ground outside and the temperature of -8°C (17.6°F) feels (apparently) like -14°C (6.8°F). Then I look at this photograph again and I feel warm from a different source, as I did on that day. Oh! The power of the imagination! Flower a Day #509 View all posts on the Home page.

  1. -8 degrees and snow sound like heaven to me Ellie.

I like the green and white for a change from the blue which my dad used to have when I was a kid.

Huge bushes by the side of the house and apparently the acidity of the soil determines the colour ..

    Snow photos soon ?

    1. Yes Len, -8 isn’t so bad when you compare it to -24º of the morning we went for our boosters..
Just took one photo of the snow this year, from the inside, of the window completely blocked up and Claudia wondering where the outside had gone. Just a phone pic. I’ve not been getting out much lately when the snow is bad, I’ll send you the pic.
Yes, this colour is a lovely change, who knows what their soil acidity is?
      Cheers

  2. Since hydrangeas can bloom at various times, it’s hard to say that this bloom represents the first blush of Spring. Nevertheless, the blushing part seems appropriate. Blushing why, you ask? Blushing at this season’s debut. Blushing, modestly, with the awareness of her youthful beauty, and blushing as observers take note of it. Thank you, Ellie, for the introduction to this fresh debutante.

  3. It is so very lovely Ellie. And I agree each stage of the flower is beautiful in its own way. I love the green that’s highlighted in this photo. But I sure wish I had your imagination I can’t feel the warmth of the sun on my back today. Thanks again for sharing hope you have a great day. Hugs to you and Steve.

    1. Don’t worry, Linda, my imagination is not as good as you think. The warmth I felt was from the word stove!
But I’m glad you like the flower and thanks for the lovely comment. Hugs back.
