Red Nasturtium

Red Nasturtium

It’s time for another incredible edible flower, the spicy nasturtium! This little red one was growing among the tangle of tomato vines in our raised bed and I frequently picked them for sprinkling on our salads in the late summer. The lovely petals and inner details of them are so pretty it almost seems a shame to eat them, but they do add such a lovely splash of colour and a hit of spiciness on top of the lettuce and other salad vegetables. I hope you have a delicious bit of spicy today in your day, friends. A flower a day #454

I also have a bonus below this! Rather than publishing a single post with fall colour photographs, I thought it would be a nice idea to feature one with flower photographs daily. So here is the first of that series, a leaf of the smoke tree I shared the other day. I took several of these fascinating leaf patterns:

  1. Such a smart nasturtium…not just in its jaunty appearance but also in its action. By that, I mean, knowing that it would grow into this rich red, this wily nasturtium chose to grow in with the tomatoes where it would be well camouflagued thereby enjoying a longer growing season perhaps. Not just a pretty face at all. Thank you, Ellie, for showcasing the smart ones too.

  2. Both are very lovely Ellie. Love the red colour and the amazing centers. The leaf one almost reminds me of similar patterns on the coleus plant. Hope you had not too bad of a night last night. Looking forward to seeing some pictures of the new little one. Hugs to you and Steve.

    1. That’s true, Linda those colours and patterns are reminiscent of certain coleus leaves. And thanks for the question about our night. It was the night that wasn’t… As far as sleep was concerned, anyway. But we got home safely with our precious cargo and have spent the day recovering. Photos have been taken (by Steven) and will be shared! Watch his space. Thanks again.
