Transformer Transformation

Sharp Focus on Blur : 5

Plus Post Week 5 Blurs and Unsharp Photography: Guided Play 2015 by Alex Lapidus.

"Take sharp photos and blur them." Sounds easy? Well it seems to fly in the face of all that we usually strive for, as photographers. But nothing is sacrosanct when it comes to experimenting in this mentorship and so, kicking and screaming, I did just that.

I didn't just take any old photographs, I took ones specially knowing that I was going to transform them. This is remarkably liberating and quite different from the idea of 'whoops! this didn't work, can I fudge it with special effects or should I just bin it?'. But everything about this mentorship is liberating and refreshing. I managed even to take a sink full of dead flowers and turn them into a light and airy splash of colourful 60's psychedelia!

Now of course I'm not going to go into the details of how I achieved this effect, but I will tempt and encourage you to explore for yourselves if you ever have the wonderful opportunity to take part in such a mentorship. +Alex Lapidus is a bully in the most positive way, always pushing us, always goading us to achieve better and better (intentional) results and making us even love what we thought of as our mistakes. How do you do that, Alex? It's a gift.

With special thanks to my fellow students as they continue to learn and laugh with me. I'm a week behind but their fantastic (in the original sense of the word) results have inspired and encouraged me to keep going in spite of everything. Thanks everyone.

Thanks also to the +G+ Mentorship Program for Photographers which with the wonderful program of free mentorships make all this possible.

  1. And I'm also glad you like the Posting, too, +Sharon Stone
I'm a bit behind, but as they say, slow and steady wins the race. Busy getting things ready for Steven to leave for PIttsburgh, so will be able to get back to it soon.

  2. He does much wonderful geometric art. I love the mystery that the reflections bring in this, and off to the right is a different world.
We must obscure details, as they are watching 😉

  3. This is a very cool image, and it kept me looking long at it, my brain tried to see some logic in it but the image just denied it. Very well done it has a kind of sci fi feeling. I love it!
