Week 9/26: Superstitions
The pileated woodpeckers in our woods make a terrific racket as they search for food in the trunks of the old trees and the holes that are left are impressive. I had seen this tree at the bottom of the field by the barn and knew that it would do for this theme. I knew it worked when Steven, on seeing the images said “The woodpeckers around here are really superstitious!”

I still can see snow up there … :o) I was searching for the woodpecker here but then realized that it's about the wholes in this old tree. You caught it nicely in the light with all the details!
+Dorota Dylka thanks very much, Dorota.
Beautiful shot. Great find!
+Divvya Bhatt thanks a lot. I hope it will be around for a long time still, but at this rate it might not.
Thanks a lot, Janet. I'm never sure what people expect knocking on wood to do. In this case it's pretty clear, though. 🙂
Nice shot👍🏼
Would love to see it myself 😊
Coffee sounds good Elie! 😉
The tree seems about to come alive +Ellie Kennard. Did a visitor come knocking as predicted? Nice twist on the theme for sure.
+Linda Jess that's just what I thought. It's seen so much in its lifetime. I'm glad you like it. It's fun working together on these themes, too, though our individual contributions would never give a hint of it. (Excerpt when I'm the model, of course!)
+Heiko Mahr thanks very much, Heiko, it's a wonderful tree. I wish I really knew its whole story.
+Lauri Novak thank you, Lauri.. 😀
+Alison Christensen thanks a lot. Sorry to make you work so hard. I hope you get that sleep… Or more coffee. 😉
+Pat Kight they were really wonderful, I was really amazed at the destruction. Wish I'd caught the bird causing it in the shot.
+Tisha Montgomery thank you Tisha.
+Sumit Sen thanks a lot, Sumit.
+Shelly Gunderson thanks very much, Shelly.
It's sure been pretty much whomped, +Steffan Correll, though I had to look up the reference, not being a Harry Potter fan. Thanks!
I rushed out when I realised I had to get this on a bright morning before the sun moved and the woods were in shade. The sunlight just hit it as I wanted it, giving the texture and detail I was hoping for, thanks for noticing, Lynn
+Lynn David Newton
+Giselle Savoie thanks a lot, Giselle.
Great shot Ellie. I love the different textures in the photo. When you think of the age and the stories the tree could tell.
What a tree and great story again +Ellie Kennard
Love the BW!! All those details.
It took me a while, but I finally got it! I need more sleep 😉
Impressive image as always Ellie!
Super good textures and light!
Nice!
Well seen and captured! 🙂
Beautiful! Great take on theme!
This looks really great. It reminds me of the Whomping Willow ;-))
The light in this is gorgeous.
Beautiful capture, awesome details and textures!
