Sophia

Sophia is like a flower. She brightens up the room just as flowers do, by her very presence. She is full of light and love and joy with her direct, trusting gaze and that little smile that played around her rosebud mouth when she looked up at her beloved Dadda.

We met Sophia only yesterday and she touched our hearts. What a sweetheart.

Full Moon Kitchen Window – 73/365

I saw this in my kitchen window last night and thought the reflected lights, the (almost) full moon, the tired looking but bright coloured flowers and the dark blue sky made for a great composition. No story, I just loved it and hope you do too.

Have a great weekend everyone and I hope the weather is being kind to all.

Spots – 61/365

Playing with capturing city lights from a moving car. It looks to me like worlds or planets, love the intersecting circles.

The Quality Inn, Halifax – 54/365

Continuing on in the abstract mood that I have been in for the last few days, here is a photograph I have wanted to get for some time now. The Quality Inn must be one cool place to stay!

Things That Obscure the Light – 44/365

These poplar trees are not supposed to be here. We had arranged last year to have them cut down as they are mostly dead and risk, in a wind storm, falling on our car, or the barn. But the tree fellers never did turn up and cut them down. And so here they stand. This morning, their fingers of branches and twigs seemed to be conspiring with the mist to block the light of the sun. As a result, the sun had an eerie, unnatural effect. Such is life. Some of the things that hide the light are subtle and invidious, like the mist. Others are obvious and in your face. With the best will in the world, you can't always remove them, even the most obvious ones. You have to make the effort to look around and through them to see the light. Because it is there.

Playing Fields

This was a special night in August, when we still had Joni with us. She was beginning to show the effects of her illness, so I had walked her on a shorter than usual route to meet Steven who had taken the long walk she usually enjoyed so much. Joni and I had come along the path through the woods and out along the edge of the playing field where I saw that the clouds in the sky were most unusual, after the sun had just set. We walked further on and sat to rest at the picnic table just at the edge of the path where we would begin our walk back home. I looked back at the playing field and really liked the way the lights over the playing field silhouetted the trees so well, and formed an interesting foil to the strange striated cloud layers. Joni sat and waited while I balanced my camera on the picnic table and took this photograph.
