Silvery Lupine

Silvery Lupine

Silvery Lupine

There have been lupins (lupines) blooming on the roadside on our walk right up until about a week ago. They might still be there, but no doubt looking very sorry for themselves. These are a particularly lovely variety, quite possibly those same ones. They have edible seeds, but they are tiny and the harvesting and processing is laborious. I prefer just to admire their loveliness during the long season when they are in bloom. Hugs to all! (December Gallery will be added here later today.) 1. My father loved lupines in all their forms and colours. One of the first things he planted when they moved back to Nova Scotia was lupines. No, it’s wrong to say he planted them. What he really did was strew them about the field beside tbe house and the ditch near the road. They formed their own palette of purples, pinks, blues, whites, and multicoloureds with the odd yellow thrown in. I always knew I was home when I saw their happy brushes waving hello in the summer breeze. Thus the humble lupine holds a dear spot in my heart to this day and always will. Thank you, Ellie, for this brief trip down memory lane.

    1. What a lovely memory to have inspired, Janet. I have such fond memories of your parents from my childhood, so to think of him strewing lupine seeds hither and thither so that they made such a splendid display warms my heart with memories also. I only wish I could have seen his. But I can imagine. Thank you Janet.

  2. They are lovely Ellie. Always love driving along the highway and seeing fields of those on the edges of the roads. It’s amazing the different colors they have. Thanks again for sharing hope you have a great day. Hugs you and Steve
