Radish Flowers

Radish Flowers

For Saturday’s Flower a Day, we are having a PFD (pink flower day) again, but this time one that brings us right down to earth. These tiny pink radish flowers remind us of the beauty we see in the simplicity of these underrated blossoms. They come in pink, yellow and white, depending on the variety and below you see the white ones. They make a beautiful and spicy addition to a salad, with the brassica benefits, albeit on a tiny scale. But I admit that for me, their attraction is in the delicacy of the blooms hanging over the dark earth, ready to form the beautiful seed pods you see next. In the flowers today, let us celebrate the understated, the modest and the quiet stars of the plant world and of the human one too. No need to be dull.. a little spice is just fine!

  1. Both a PFD and another incredible edible to boot. These dear little blooms don’t just have to embellish the vegetable patch, it’s not just the root that you can add to your salad…no, you can also use these blooms as a garnish and even the pods can be added to salads and veggie dishes. So, once again, nature has provided a multi-purpose decorative, very deceptive-looking plant. Hidden behind that innocent facade is a bounty of talent, if only we knew. Thanks so much for unearthing it, Ellie.

    1. Another multi talented star of the vegetable Kingdom, you are so right, Janet! And as I seem to be on an edibles (and multi purpose) kick, we will continue that theme at least partly tomorrow, to segue into a more frivolous decorative choice perhaps.
Thanks again for the comment! I look forward to reading each one.
