Pearly Everlasting

These delicate papery flowers are today’s Flower a Day feature. You might remember from my notes on a previous post that I discovered them in the middle of a path on the edge of a field with no others of the variety to be seen. How it got there I can’t imagine, but it was such a lovely surprise! These are almost pre-dried ready for indoor display, but of course I didn’t pick these. We used to buy the pale coloured dried ones and they were lovely, but I think I prefer these ‘pearly’ ones. I hope they bring a bit of light to your day as they have to mine.

  1. This innocuous sweet-looking little flower is another ‘incredible edible’ with an illustrious list of medicinal benefits to boot. In a way, it’s posture almost seems to be saying “I’m bursting to tell you all the good things I can bring to your life”. Of course, one of the good things that is immediately apparent is its beauty. That intricate bloom with the hint of pink/red peaking out is a botanical wonder. And I love the name, pearly everlasting – the perfect moniker for another underappreciated hero of the plant world. Thanks, Ellie, for this little pearly gem.
