When life gives you plastic – take it off! These exotic elegant flowers were wrapped in plastic in that same hardware store mentioned in a previous Flower a Day posting. I could see that wasn’t going to work for me, so I just took the pot out of the plastic to take this photo. They were so rich in their colour that these orchids almost glowed when out of the sleeve. It was another lovely find in an unlikely location. I try to take every chance I get to spot potential models for my project where I am, finding beauty where least expected. The trick is to always have my camera with me and be prepared to adapt if the situation calls for it. I hope you like today’s offering, my friends.

Talk about a lonely little petunia in an onion patch! What’s an orchid in a hardware store? Poetry wrapped in plastic, that’s what. Did you rescue it, Ellie? I can see it pleading to be relocated to somewhere more fitting where it will be cared for and admired as only an orchid can command. Delicate, exquisite, dramatic, demanding of respect, orchids whither in my cloutish care. It takes a real touch to get these beauties to bloom for you. This one is advertising its abilities and putting on a great show in the process. Everything about it says ‘take me home’. Thank you, Ellie.
Oh NO! I have no sadistic streak that would make me take such a plant home with me! I cannot keep them going after the first flowers fade either, I’m afraid, so I left them in the relative safety of the hardware store to look appealingly at another customer with more freen fingers than I have. I have the photographs. And I will be content with them. Thanks again Janet. There are more to come…
