Nicotiana

Today’s Flower a Day features another little dancer waving on the end of a fragile stem – a Nicotiana. Enriching the evening with a beautiful scent, this lovely flower is a favourite of mine. I wish I could remember where I took this photo! But I’m sure that in any case the photograph is all that remains of this lovely flower now. The cold has really set in, so all we have are the sweet memories of a lingering perfume that wafts on the night air on a summer night. There will be more summer nights with such aromatic beauties. We just have to really enjoy the good moments we have where we find them and not long for what has been. The future holds more promise than the past!

The Flower a Day Gallery with current content is below. Each day a new photo will be added. With today’s post there are now 72 to view. Click or tap to view full size.

  1. Also known as the tobacco plant, but I think Nicotiana is a more fitting moniker for this lovely dancer on the breeze who seduces pollinators in the twilight hours with its signature scent. It strikes me as a free spirit, small and somewhat unassuming, but one who knows its role is important to its environs, including us and so can dance with abandon and bring delight to its observers. Thank you, Ellie. It’s a lovely capture.

  2. I love getting your pictures each morning. They are all spectacular! And, your words of encouragement are also very much appreciated!

    1. Thank you so much for your lovely comment Kathy. It encourages me to keep going on this project, not only for myself! Have a lovely day and warm regards to you both.
