Lobularia Maritima

After yesterday’s Flower a Day post I knew that I wanted to find a simple little bloom to feature. This tiny bunch fit the bill perfectly. The clean white petals with their yellow centres stand above and are surrounded by their fall tinged foliage so that they are conspicuous while at the same time, modest in their simplicity. This was taken at the end of September, which seems like forever ago. So much has happened since I photographed it. I wish you all a peaceful Sunday. Hug those around you whom you love. Because you never know what the future will bring in this world.

  1. I like the common name for this plant better, Sweet Alyssum, because it looks so sweet and smells so sweet. I always have Sweet Alyssum in my planters in the backyard for this very reason and the fact that they bloom and bloom well into the fall. In fact, they seem to appreciate the slightly cooler weather and perk up when the heat of summer subsides. In that way, the two of us are alike. However, in this specimen, the flowers, although adorable are not, for me, the star of the show. It is the leaves to which I am drawn. Look how interesting they are – half purple bleeding into green, providing a perfect backdrop to the leading ladies and maybe stealing a bit of the limelight. Whether the centre of attention or in a support role, we all must do our part. Thank you, Ellie, for this peaceful shot.

    1. I agree, the alyssum is so much prettier a name. I think I might have already got that somewhere else or wanted to be fancy? In any case, I absolutely agree, the flowers are almost a foil for the beauty of the leaves behind them! They really were lovely. Thanks again, Janet!

  2. Another beautiful flower Ellie thanks they are very delicate and the little yellow centers almost a circle. Plus the green and pinkish leaves in the background. The little green buds in the center of the flowers with their white on them like they’re ready to pop open. Thank you very much and hugs to you and Steve.
