Leopard Print Orchid

Leopard Print Orchidy

Leopard Print Orchid

Today’s flower has been renamed specially for you viewers. It might be confusing for those viewing on a small screen, but those who visit the image in full screen mode and zoom in will understand why it is a Leopard Print Orchid. This photograph was taken in March of this year, when orchids were thin on the ground in Nova Scotia ;-). It’s not always easy photographing flowers encased in plastic wrap in a builder’s merchant environment but this one didn’t come out too badly. Many of us in the Northern Hemisphere (the more Northern districts) are spending more time indoors, so I know many are enjoying these flowering in their homes. The only flowers that I have managed to keep flowering (I use that term loosely) are the cyclamen plants I bought a year ago. As I hurt my knee in a fall last week, I haven’t been able to get out walking for a few days, so for my enjoyment of nature today I am watching squirrels playing together up and down the tree trunk outside my window. There are greys, a black, a couple of babies at least, possibly red ones enjoying the fun. It is such a joyous scene! I hope something brings you a smile today, just as these have brought me. 1. another tick Ellie … You have had a busy year and I wonder what the plans are for next year …. This place is opening up and thousands are getting the Covid BUT very little hospitals yet as the vaccine seems to be working …

    1. Thanks Len. The plans are pretty much to carry on carrying on. Cases are soaring here, but we are so far safe. I’m sure you will be travelling as soon as you can. Meanwhile I keep on sharing a little spot of joy each day as I can. Not long until 500 consecutive!

  2. Based on your definition of a ‘leopard print’ orchid, Ellie, and my experence of orchids in general, most, if not all, orchids are ‘leopard print’ orchids. But that does not detract from the fact that this the perfect choice for a perfect PFD. Thank you, Ellie, for this rosy offering.

    1. And of course you have been paying attention (at least to the flowers) and have noted that this is a distinctive feature of orchids! In fact this is, I believe, one of the only places where I love to see a leopard print (apart from on the big cat itself, of course!). I’m glad you liked this PFD. Thanks Janet.

  3. That is amazing Ellie. It is so true when you zoom in you can really see the leopard pattern in that center. What a Unique design in there. Orchids are such an amazing flower. And they keep blooming for so long – months even. Also the different colours, so rich. Thanks for sharing. Hope you have a great day. Hugs to you and Steve.

    1. I hope more will take the time to look and zoom in to see that pattern, but I am certainly glad that you did, at least. Thanks for the lovely comment, Linda.
