Hydrangea Siebold

Hydrangea Paniculata Siebold
Hydrangea paniculata Siebold

Hydrangeas are one of my favourite flowers. My house is filled with dried ones in the winter and I love the fresh ones in the summer. They are so diverse in their colours and the way the flowers display. Today’s Flower a Day one was taken at the end of the summer hiding deep in dark green foliage next to a Lee Valley store in the city and I believe it is called “paniculata Siebold”. I liked the blotched pink and red colours on each white petal, so wanted to feature them up close. I send you all warm wishes for a good day.

  1. Hi Ellie … as we have such a time difference over here in Oz I wake up every morning to mail from Ellie …

What a Happy way to start my day .. thank you .. Now I know you do not celebrate Christmas as such but all the very best of everything for the festive season to you and your man… Rocket on 2021 ..

    1. I’m so glad to hear that my posts brighten your day first thing in the morning! I send them out first thing in my morning, so I guess they just arrive a little too late in the evening for you in Australian time. I’m also really glad that you like them.

Thank you so much for your kind wishes. I wish we were enjoying the lovely weather of Summer that you are having down there at the moment, instead of our weather which isn’t even snowy, but is just cold and rainy. We have had pretty serious minus temperatures, and a bit of snow but it’s all gone now. I will try to keep sending you a flower a day just as long as I can! All the best to you both.

  2. Hydrangeas are another of those hard-working shrubs that can grow just about anywhere in a variety of soil types and yet produce the most wonderful sizes, shapes and colours of flower clusters. I have several in my gardens, front and back. They never disappoint. I think this particular shrub’s ears are burning at all the praise it’s getting and is causing it to blush, a spreading blush from petal to petal. Did I mention that they are also modest. Sweet, Ellie. Thank you.

    1. Thanks again Janet! Yes, blushing indeed, but in that kind of blotchy blush that happens to some of us, rather than a soft gentle one favoured by storybook heroines! Poor little blooms hanging their heads, but worth photographing for sure.

  3. Morning Ellie. They are lovely. It’s unique how there’s just four little petals on each blossom exquisite little design with the blotched colour all over the petals reminds me a little bit of Steve’s violet.

    1. You are right, Linda, it’s not dissimilar, although I think Steven’s violets’ are a little softer? We can have a look next time you come. Thanks for the comment. I’m glad you like it.
